Shy Laura Kincaid had loved Cash Wycliffe, the tenant farmer's headstrong son, since childhood. And while Cash—who had sought his fortune in the West and returned a wealthy man—grew up to be a ruggedly handsome gambler and shameless womanizer, he was the last man on earth a well-bred Kentucky lady should want. Besides, his eyes were fixed on Laura's aristocratic cousin Sallie, a dazzlingly beautiful Southern belle.
But Laura let her heart rule her fate...and amid the tumult of the Civil War and its aftermath, she surrendered to her desire for a man who made no promises beyond the pleasure of the moment...armed only with a woman's sense that love was destined to bloom where passion flamed...

I loved this book. It'll keep you up nights so involved in the chemistry between Laura and Cash.
There were parts that were ok, but this sorry was lacking.....this was one of the most emotionless book I ever read....I don't even know where to srart...first the book was way too long ....had zero passion...love scenes were written horrible.. (more like non existing ) this book could of had so much potential if the auther could have had put emotions in her characters...cash takes her virginity ...nut says he always loved her in the end but married her cousin couse she is the perfect society girl...gets both women pregnant...moves in with her cousin house to raise his baby in front of his new wife...the wife is a selfish b**ch...who would never had married cash who was half black and scum nor of her station...so why did she marry him???? The auther did a horrible job in a l this mess never explaining anything...also for parents who lost there kid on a train...just lay around in bed talking about there future ...really ????? Once again the Auther did a horrible job....Couse I sure the hell wouldn't be in bed I would be out trying to find my baby...trust me this book was horrible , no passion , no emotions and the ending just ended...we're was the kid??? Did they marry????? I won't be reading this auther ever again...not worth the time or money ...
