The ARose Books publication of this story has been carefully edited producing a beautiful book. The Nook version was created from the published book, which was NOT a scanned copy.

    Wonderful, Classic Book

I read this book many years ago and have since re-read it. It's just timeless and classic. Don't let this slip by you. It's an incredible, tender story of suspense and human relationships. I am a native of this beautiful Ozark Country. The story hit it right on.

    A must read for everyone

A perfect mixer for all aspects of a book. It brings life, romance and the true meaning of faithful all together in a very inspiring way. I am from the Ozarks and Bell's description is perfect in describing the sheer beauty. The story gradually carries you through the rough terrain of the mountains and into a world of average everyday people who are very loyal and accepting of an elderly man who is searching for something he has lost. The ending is far from what you would expect but very fitting to the story. Happy reading.

Be careful of which copy you get if you wish to read this classic. This edition is a good copy and wasn't scanned. Most of the free copies are virtually unreadable on the nook.
As for the book itself. A wonderful classic. I give it 3 stars (stingy with stars) and recommend it.

I had to force myself to put this down to sleep

This was a great book with each chapter heading urging you to continue to read on. It never became boring with the events following in order to the final page. THe book has mystery drama and romance painted in the beauty of the Ozark Mountains.

    Warm human interest story

Travel the back hills of long ago along a path that no one knows is how old. This warm human interest story begins with a lonely old man traveling in search of something that he does not know. He finds rest and comfort in the quiet life among friends who do not know the deep dark secret he possesses. 'Dad' as he is come to be known by the simple backwood folk of the Ozarks, soon builds a lasting friendship. A climatic end finally brings to light the dark secret and joins the two families together.

Family story of values, challenges, victories and peace!

This story touched my heart, and inspired me to be a better person. The Ozark tale is a must read, especially for those in the Mo. Ozarks.

    An excellent book

Story and characters are wonderful. If you are familiar with the Ozark mountain region, you'll love the setting too.
