Meet the Author

Ron Mayes is a career educator with many years of experience as a public school teacher, principal, and superintendent. He earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Indiana University, and has invested much of his life in the interest of enlightening the minds of young students.

Dr. Mayes is also a son and a grandson; a father and a grandfather; a brother and a husband. His quest for a deeper understanding of the source of his grandfather's rich character, led to discoveries beyond his imagination.

The witness of his mother's long battle with Alzheimer's disease, and the discovery of his similar destiny, directed the search inward. The author's life experiences took on a whole new meaning as he took a long and deep look at the events that shaped him.

What began as a leisurely quest to honor his grandfather, became a life-long mission, and finally a race against time. As the project came to an end, he sought to document how he had come to better appreciate his own life-shaping experiences, in hopes that others would do the same.
