Children's Literature - Tiffany Torbeck
The popular "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series by Rick Riordan has generated an increase in interest in Greek mythology. Even when Greek mythology is not so brightly in the limelight, teachers need a way to make this very complicated subject accessible to children. This volume looks specifically at the women of classical mythology. It is easily browsable. Not only are major goddesses profiled, but also many important mortals, nymphs and Titans can also be found in the book's pages. All of these characters are allotted a fact sheet plus notable stories which are organized alphabetically by name. This volume includes a table of contents for easy reference, and it also contains an index, a family tree, a glossary, and a map of the night sky. There are many references to pop culture, as well as texting and instant messaging abbreviations that might unnecessarily age this book, but these features make the book that much more relevant to young readers today.
