Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Porter (Easy on the Eyes) injects some western flavor in this story of starting over and romance in the over-30 set. After ex-supermodel Shey Darcy's husband leaves her for another man, she packs up her three teenage sons and moves from New York City to the Texas ranch where she grew up, and while Shey easily finds work as a catalogue model and reconnects with her two older brothers, the divorce weighs on her mind and two of her boys can't make the transition, particularly 14-year-old Bo, who suffers from depression. Naturally, Shey's return to her old stomping grounds prompts the inevitable reunion with an old flame, former pro bull rider Dane Kelly. Porter's depiction of small town Texas is convincing, but her protagonists are too flawless to be believable, and their happy ending comes after too little conflict. It's a nice diversion that could use a bit more complexity. (Aug.)

    I've Gone Country Again!

I loved this book. For many reasons. Some being that it's a great chic book, it's about a single mom with teenage boys (though mine are teenagers YET, I can relate being a single mom of two boys), it's funny, and probably most importantly, it's about being country. I'm a country girl at heart. While I don't wear wranglers and boots, I do have a love for country. Country music. Country shows. Good ol' Southern Sweet Tea. So, through Jane Porter's words and characters, I was completely captivated by this awesome book!

Porter's characters are AWESOME. Down home, southern hospitality at it's best as the characters welcome back Shey Darcy, the single mom who's husband doesn't love her anymore (he's actually gay!). In comes hot ex boyfriend Dane. Now THAT is a character I wish could be in EVERY book I read. (Can I insert a *purr* here?) Throw in Shey's over powering Southern Baptist mama and this is one book that I am super glad that I got to read!!

So, in my review conclusion, DEFINITELY worth HIGH recommendation and 5 star praises. It's upbeat, yet funny, yet deals with lots of issues that woman deal with today. Not to mention it's a very enlightening read for us fellow single mama's out there! So, grab your boots, your wranglers, a mason jar of sweet tea and a copy of Porter's book. If you're not already, you'll be going country right along side Shey Darcy!

    AN AMAZING LOVE STORY!

SHE'S GONE COUNTRY by Jane Porter is a contemporary romance set in modern day Texas. It is well written with details and depth. It has romance, cowboys, ranch life, divorce, bullying, second chances, major life changes, adolescent issues and betrayal. The characters are strong, determined, likable and interesting. The heroine, Shey, is in the middle of a divorce, just learned her husband of years is in love with someone else, a male. She moves back home to Texas where she learns to reinvent herself, pick up the pieces of her broken life and her uncertain future for her and her sons. One son, is depressed, being bullied at school, one goes back to New York with her father and the other one is training with her ex-boyfriend for bull riding. The hero, Dane, is her ex, whom they loved each other but where separated by Shey's family. He is also a national bull-riding champ, has lost a child, and is newing his love for Shey. This story is a wonderful story of love lost and found again. Of starting over, forgiveness, it shows of one women's struggles to manage three teenage boys, find her hopes, dreams and deal with her overbearing mother, over protective brothers and manage a new life with the love of her life, a new baby, and a new career. I would recommend this book. It is a good ole country story with good ole country goals. This book was received for review from the publisher and details can be found at 5 Spot an imprint of Grand Central Publishing and My Book Addiction and More.

    A great summer read!

I love a story that lets me escape to the country. Handsome cowboys, ranch life, and a simpler life style ... away from the hustle and bustle of the city. She's Gone Country is just that kind of book.

Shey is devastated by the end of her marriage, and moves home with her three boys to the ranch where she grew up. I loved the description of her mother, a strong Baptist woman who still likes to tell her daughter what to do (even though Shey is now 39). Shey's two brothers live nearby, so she often feels like she has no freedom to make her own choices.

And then along comes her old high school sweetheart Dane ... and Shey is immediately transported back to a happier time, and all her teenage dreams surface as though the past 25 years never happened. There are some very serious issues in this book as well, it is much more than a simple romance story.

All in all, a very enjoyable book ... and a great summer read!

What does a New York Fashion Model have in common with a Pro Rodeo Bull Rider?

What do you get with a New York fashion model who finds herself recently on the verge of a divorce after finding out her husband of 17 years is gay?

You do what Shey Lynn Darcy does, you take your three teenage boys and leave New York for the comforts of moving in to your old ranch house in Texas and figure things out. Here you have the love and comfort of your older brothers Brick and Blue who want nothing more than to help you out and make sure that you are well taken care of.

However what complicates things even more besides trying to raise three teenage boys on her own, is the fact that the one man she has loved her entire life, has moved back to town, now recently divorced and looking far better than he does at 45 than when you were 16.

Twenty two years have passed since Shey and Dane Kelly have seen one another. When she does happen to run into him at the local diner, this one rugged three time championship bull rider, now walks with a limp and a cane after a horrible accident in the ring one night ends his career as a pro bull rider on the circuit.

Yet despite his injury, Shey still has the passion once more to realize that even though so much time has passed her feelings for Dane have grown more stronger in their absence. The only thing preventing her from falling for him once again, is the fact that her brothers Blue and Brick are feuding with Dane since the death of their younger brother Cody, whom they feel Dane is to blame in his death.

Will Shey be able to handle working out the differences with her brothers and Dane? Will she fall for Dane again even after all these years? Will her ex husband John Darcy take sole custody of her kids unless she moves back to New York?

The answer to these questions and even more are found within the pages of a great new romance story by Jane Porter called She's Gone Country. I received this book compliments of Hachette Book Group for my honest review and being a country girl at heart, I fell in love with all the characters of the book from Shey to even her sister's in law.

This book rates a solid 5 out of 5 stars and makes you realize that love isn't really gone if you are willing to give it a second chance. This book is available in paperback and eBook formats.

this is an entertaining contemporary second chance at love tale

In New York City, as she nears forty, former model Shey Darcy believes she lives a terrific life with her photographer husband and their three teen sons. However, her idyll family ends when her spouse announce he loves someone else and leaves her and the kids for this man.

Shey takes her distraught adolescent children back to the Texas ranch she grew up on. Her controlling siblings welcome her and the boys though each want to protect their sister and their nephews. Soon after coming home, Shey finds work as a catalogue model. However, her mom demands the quartet scrub sinful Manhattan from their souls as she is a strict Southern Baptist who expects others to be as pious as she is. Her offspring struggle with adjusting to going country and the betrayal each perceives of their father; especially depressed is Bo. Finally, her first love former pro bull rider Dane Kelly wants back in her life.

Although She's Gone Country lacks the emotional intricacy of the previous thirty-something tale (see Easy on the Eyes), this is an entertaining contemporary second chance at love tale. Shey is a wonderful lead with her can do attitude, which includes tying up in knots the former bull rider and ignoring her mother and siblings. Though much of the cast especially her family is stereotyped detracting from the potential interrelation poignant strife, fans will enjoy Shey's coming home.

    Fantastic!!

Jane Porter has written another fantastic book!!
She's Gone Country gives Shey her own book. Shey is a 39-year old model who has recently separated from her husband and decides to move back to her hometown. She has three teenage boys who have to adapt to moving from New York City to a small town in Texas. Shey has to cope with some major changes in her life and how her boys will handle it. This includes dealing with her soon-to-be ex-husband and her first love, Dane Kelly.

Porter is a master at relating current issues in her book. She delves into issues that many women face such as balancing work, children's demands and personal needs. She captures the true emotions of women during good and bad times.
I find myself anxiously awaiting her next book!! Thanks Jane for writing a book that brought such pleasure.

    Another winner from Jane!

Jane knocks it out of the park with this one. I could really tell this is another written straight from her heart. This is Shey's story. Her life has been turned upside-down by her husband of 15+ years and she retreats to her home state of Texas to be surrounded by what's familiar and safe to regroup and revive herself. Shey is left to deal with three boys who have been betrayed by their father while trying to fit in back home and make a life for herself. Her husband's betrayal has left her doubting herself in every way as no woman should: is she attractive and desirable? is she good enough and smart enough to make it without him? is she too old to have "it" again?

She deals with most conflicts head-on (with her mother, brothers, sons and even her ex). One exception being running into her first true love (or crush as she feels it might be); she's afraid to face what might or might not still be there in her romance with the sexy, stable and safe cowboy Dane.

Shey's story will keep you turning pages until you get til the very end. You won't be disappointed. Jane writes from her heart, she writes for women and she writes easy to read (and love) stories. This story even deals with very relevant and timely topics that affect her boys (don't want to spoil anything here). Jane really hits the mark with all of it.

Thank you Jane for another wonderful story to enjoy over and over. Keep them coming!!

    Jane Porter is amazing!

Although I have not read this book yet, I know it will be amazing. I have never been dissapointed by a Jane Porter Novel yet. She writes with passion and her characters are interesting, relatable and strong. I can never seem to put her books down once I start. I can't wait to read this book!
