*****

“And they say Death will live among them in the guise of a child....”

Grappling with her new identity as “Bridge,” a being meant to herald the end for all of humanity, isn’t even Allie’s biggest problem. She’s also coping with a whole new set of rules around her seer marriage, as well as the power-hungry Rook she helped put in the White House, who is currently doing his best to start a war with China.

Then the boy appears. A sociopath with all of the energetic markings of Syrimne, a highly dangerous telekinetic seer who killed thousands during World War I, he doesn’t appear to have aged in one hundred years.

Worse, he thinks Allie belongs to him.

I wish I was allowed to give a 4.5-star rating but alas...

A worthy sequel to "Rook," Andrijeski's vivid descriptive language take us back into a world of human-Seer conflict, where one woman holds the key to inter-species transformation. In "Shield," we find Allie, known among Seers simply as, the Bridge, coming to terms with her existence, trying to understand and prepare for a destiny she hardly grasps or believes in, and in the midst of it all, attempting to mend the wounds of a troubled relationship with her Seer mate, ex-traitor, Dehgoies Revik. And from there, things slowly but devastatingly fall apart and the reader is steeped ever deeper into the building storm and a world on the brink. The intricacies of this future are spell-binding, mind-boggling, so seamlessly elaborate at times you find your imagination panting to keep up with the scenes and images Andrijeski creates. A real pageturner and a book that ended far too soon.

    An EASY 5-star review!

A series like Allie's War is a rare gift

Oh my. And by that I mean, OH MY! I devoted every waking moment of two days to this book - putting it down for even a minute felt like grieving.

This book picks up shortly after Rook: Allie's War Book One leaves off, and it has a forward momentum that just doesn't quit. The tension between Allie and her mate, Revik, never completely resolves, and the two of them are so in love, and yet so damaged, that their interactions are painfully bittersweet. One thinks they might heal each other, if they ever get enough time.

I want to stay in Allie and Revik's world. These characters have become completely real to me, more than that, they feel like they've always somehow been a part of me, but have been just out of heart's reach. Until now.

JC Andrijeski is a rising star. Mark my words.
