Overview

To know a Shih Tzu is to love a Shih Tzu . . . they’re irresistible, coy, flirtatious, and passionately devoted companions. They love the good life, and though they can be shrewd (or selectively deaf, or consciously naïve), the Shih Tzu is so endearing that even “big dog” lovers find themselves swooning over this adorable breed. But is the Chinese Charmer the right match for you? Shih Tzu for Dummies answers all of your questions, like:

  • What is a Shih Tzu really like?
  • Can I get a Shih Tzu if I have children or other pets?
  • How difficult is grooming? Can I do it myself or should I get a professional?
  • How do I find a good breeder? What about a good vet?
  • What should my Shih Tzu eat?
  • Do small dogs really need that much training?
  • How can I teach my Shih Tzu some basic commands?

The Shih Tzu is built for one job and one job alone: to be your close personal friend for life. A dog bred for companionship must be allowed to do its job, and its job is to be with you. So, if you have the time (for grooming), dedication (for training), and room (on your lap and in your heart), the Shih Tzu is a small dog with a lot of love just waiting for a new best friend.

I just got this book today. And so far from what I have read it tells you everything you need to know. I am happy I got this book because I know a lot more about shih tzus then I have ever had.

This was a quick read with good foundation advice for those with the amazing shih tzu. You will want another book if you want to get into more details with the how-to's of grooming, obedience, etc., but it is a great intro and overview. Brought up an idea I had not thought of for my dogs: a doggy water bottle instead of bowl!

Do not use ur money on this book when i can tell u everthing about shih tzus. First of. Shih tzus love to be loved and cared for. They worship u as if u were the king of china. They r royal dogs bred for the king of china so treet them well. Second. Shih tzus can not be outside for too long or they could get heet stroke or really bad sikcness. They love to be in the snow for 5min. Then go cuddle somewhere warm. Treat ur pet with respect. If u work outside for a long time a shih tzu would just wait by the door waiting for u to come back, and if u take too long they will start crying. Thirdly. Shih tzus can become overwait if fed too much. U have to be careful when u feed them. Forthly. Shih tzus luv to be held and cuddle with thier owners. A shih tzu is a loyal friend u can trust for life. Althoug they can be hard to train a shih tzu will be ur best friend if u listen to what i said. I can train any dog because i learn and research and i am12!!
