Having solved the matter of the Radiant Boy, Riley, Buttercup, and Bodhi are enjoying a well-deserved vacation. When Riley comes across a vicious black dog, against Bodhi's advice, she decides to cross him over. While following the dog, she runs into a young ghost named Rebecca. Despite Rebecca's sweet appearance, Riley soon learns she's not at all what she seems. As the daughter of a former plantation owner, she is furious about being murdered during a slave revolt in 1733. Mired in her own anger, Rebecca is lashing out by keeping the ghosts who died along with her trapped in their worst memories. Can Riley help Rebecca forgive and forget without losing herself to her own nightmarish memories?

Q&A with author, Alyson Noël:

What was your inspiration for the “Here and Now,” the magical realm where Riley lives?

Back when I first started working on The Immortals series, I did quite a bit of research on metaphysics and quantum physics and ghosts and sprits and the afterlife, etc, all of which sort of fed into the concept of the “Here & Now.” I guess in a way it’s how I hope the afterlife will be.

In what ways are you similar (or different) to Riley Bloom?

Actually, Riley and I share a lot in common. I know what it’s like to be the “baby” of the family, and though I hate to admit it, I’ve also been known to hog the microphone while playing Rock Band on the Wii! Writing Radiance was the most fun I’ve ever had writing a book. It’s been an absolute blast bringing Riley back, and I hope readers enjoy her adventures as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them!
