Overview

Returning with his award-winning wit and delightfully candid narrative voice, Brian brings us the first and only expose of art auctioneering on the mighty liners, where the tenet of 'what happens at sea, stays at sea' has always been observed-until now.

Ship for Brains takes on cruise ship art auctioneers, a society brimming with odd personalities drawn to the stress and isolation that invariably lead to alcohol and a Hell-may-care attitude. According to Bruns, "They willingly give up home and family in favor of high-paced, crushing sales goals demanded while port-hopping from nation to nation; art auctioneers are undermined by the lash of tyrannical ship officers, unforgiving gallery managers, hyena-like trainers, and a skeptical public. The burn-out rate is phenomenal-but when it works, you are king of the world."

Brian's true-life struggle turns both harrowing and hilarious when goaded by the lecherous but mighty auctioneer Bill Shatner, and he must navigate sexy dancers and their all-to-intimate cliques, the slapstick schemes of his mentors, and the seduction of success, all while staying true to his girl and himself. We are transported from the Caribbean to the Pacific and Costa Rica to Transylvania as our likable guide vividly describes his many misadventures, triumphs, flirtations, and, above all, his amusing and astute insights into human nature.

Ship for Brains-this ain't no galley tour.

The beauty of art on a ship

Ship for Brains is a funny look at life onboard a cruise ship. As an avid cruiser and buyer of fine art onboard, it was interesting to learn the ins and outs of ship life. Bruns takes readers through his training on land and then through his real world traing at sea. Having sailed on some of the ships mentioned in the book it was fascinating to get a new view of what goes on when passengers aren't around. If you read Bruns's first book you will definetly want to read this follow up book. The pace is fast and funny. This is definetly a good book to take along on your next cruise! I can't wait until the 3rd book comes out!

    Ready for book 3!

I am an avid cruiser and started reading Cruise Confidential a few days after I cruised on one of Carnival's boats. I was excited to finally be able to download Ship for Brains and read it within 2-3 days of starting it. Brian tells a great story with a great amount of humor, I did laugh out loud many times. Great read, especially if you have been or plan to go on a cruise.

I worked in cruise liner for more than years, to me the author have't yet see the real "cruise underworld" . It's beyond human imagination . . . been there & done that

    Boring

Not the best book. Gave it a chance. Had to give up at page 250 or so because it wasn't holding my attention. Picked up The Hunger Games instead...more my speed I guess.

    Pretty good read

I like the author's wicked sense of humor, and he tells some really good "tales out of school." But you'd better be prepared for some risque material. Mr. Bruns doesn't shy away from displaying his manhood. I actually liked this book better than Cruise Confidential (the first book). The people in his life were a little less transient and the environment felt a little less like a cave-dwelling. He seems like more of an adult here.
