Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Judy Katsh
Part of a series "How Science Works," this book presents chapters about ships--their structure, controls, shape, and power. Each chapter is accompanied by science projects that illustrate the learning. The explanatory text is clear and meaningfully written accompanied by many illustrative drawings and photographs. There are little science projects along the way that help illustrate such basic principles as the best shape for floating and how water flows around an object. Additionally, there is a shipbuilding project that runs the length of the book that will help kids build a ship model using easily obtained household materials and the knowledge gained from the book. It's an equally good reading choice for a young sailor or engineer; or for a science teacher wanting to take a hands-on approach to physical science.
