Gr 7-10-- Although she hopes to be remembered as the first black woman to mount a serious campaign for the presidency, Chisholm will probably be best remembered as an outspokencongresswoman from New York. Scheader presents a somewhat balanced view of this woman who prides herself on being ``unbought and unbossed.'' In a straightforward and unsensational presentation, she shows Chisholm as an intelligent and committed individual who learned to use the system to her advantage, overcoming setbacks in a political environment that is still predominantly white and male. A book that is well organized, objective, and illustrated with average-quality black-and-white photographs. --Jeanette Lambert, LaVega School, Waco, TX
