Overview

Surah Stormsong is one of the most powerful Sorceresses in the world. She is a princess who is next in line for the throne. As someone who has lost almost everything to this world, she only wants to pull away from it and live a normal life, but when Highborn ladies start being murdered and the Black Stone-a weapon that is capable of great destruction-goes missing, she is called upon to solve the issues and return her people to a state of safety.

But danger lurks inside the castle walls as well, and when she runs into Charlie Redmine, a common Sorcerer Surah met once as a child, things grow complicated very quickly. He is the main suspect of the murders, but Surah is powerless against the connection she feels to him. Time is ticking, and if she doesn't figure out what's going on things will go from bad to worse, and an entire kingdom will suffer for it.

From the author of the bestselling series, The Alexa Montgomery Saga, comes a tale of star-crossed lovers and magic, of hope and love and loss. The greatest question is, can love overcome all?

So lemme count the ways I love Ms. HD! She’s so freaking cute, she’s extra cool, she’s actually very nice, she hangs out with the coolest people (you ladies know who you are), but most of all, SHE IS A BRILLIANT WRITER! I mean, almost anyone can pick up a pen and put it to paper and write, BUT almost no one can write this well! It’s a true gift to write and write well. I am a huge fan of her first series, and I will be honest- I haven’t read the last book of the Alexa series, because I am too devastated to say goodbye…. Yes, I will read it and probably soon, BUT I need to come to terms with the fact that it’s the end. So, I wasn’t expecting to like this book as much. Pffft, goes to show what expectations are for LOL

Surah is a fantastic character. She is strong, and brave and a hero just being who she is. She does remind me of Alexa a little in the fact that she really can hold her own and doesn’t need protecting-she can protect herself. However, that’s where it stops because Surah is also feminine in a way Alexa wasn’t. She’s also ok with asking for help when she needs it. I like this so much about her.

Charlie is something HAWT! He’s just so freaking cute! And there’s some characters that I think you will just love! Especially with how well the relationships are developed between them. And I look forward to so much more from these characters, and new ones that will come to be in the future!
I will say that this type of series is not so much like the Alexa series either. I know you are going to see so much about the Alexa series, but HD has made her own way here. There shouldn’t be that much comparison because even though it’s coming from the same writer, and there is a similar style, I can’t find all that much to say “it’s just like that one”. There is action and suspense and a wonderful creation of a new world! That alone was so awesome!
There is so much to say about this book, but I can’t tell you everything or else I would ruin something beautiful! So, I will stop blabbering and tell you to read this 5 MAGICALLY WONDERFUL PAWS book!  Go right now!  and then we can wait impatiently for the next book to come out!

Surah and Charlie are the main characters here and they live in

Surah and Charlie are the main characters here and they live in the world from The Alexa Montgomery Saga (which I really recommend by the way) and their story is set after the events from those books. That is just one thing that makes this book awesome. My expectations were really high for this one. H.D. did an amazing job on Alexa's story and I didn't think she could live up to that. I hoped for it, but I didn't think she would. And she didn't let me down. This book is beyond awesome.

At first, Surah reminded me of Jasmine (you know, from Aladdin). She was a princess that didn't want to be a princess anymore with a huge tiger as a pet and best friend and she falls in love with a common boy. So I guess Charlie is kind of like Aladdin too. But Jasmine didn't have lavender hair and eyes and cool magic powers and she wasn't hundreds of years old. Surah is one kickass heroine. She can kick some as but at the same time, she struggles with the doubts within herself. Will she be what her father expects her to be? Or will she go her own way?
Charlie was so cute and sweet! He has been in love with Surah for years. (Centuries actually.) He even wrote a song for her! Gosh, I want my own Charlie. *swoon*
Do I even have to tell you how awesome Samson is? No. You know he is, even if you haven't read the book yet.
I don't like Michael, he's an ass and for some reason I don't like Theo either. I just have a bad feeling about that guy.

This story doesn't have a slow start. H.D.'s books never really have. She doesn't wait to start the action, she just does it. I love her so much. She is such an incredible writer and an amazing storyteller. She has a way with words that I can't describe. Every time I finish a book, I just sit in my chair for a moment. Speechless.
On of the best things of this book? The romance. There is no insta-love here! Not at all. Charlie and Surah have been in love with each other for centuries (even though they have a hard time admitting that). I wouldn't exactly call that insta-love, would you? They are so sweet together and when Charlie sang that song to Surah, the hopeless romantic in me rejoiced.

So long story short, this book is great. The world, the characters, the story. It is everything I wanted and more. Much more. Thank you H.D. for yet another amazing book. And hurry up on the sequel, please?

A story of Star crossed lovers from an exceptional writer.
I've fallen for the softer side of my favorite writer. We still get Gordon action and wit but she shows us in Shooting Stars that romance can be done with emotion and feelings  instead of body parts and one liners.
Don't miss this strong debut from what I am sure is going to be another epic series from the extremely talented H.D. Gordon
