Laura TillotsonGr. 8-12. The editors of Great Monologues for Young Actors (1992) and Great Scenes for Young Actors (1991) return with an impressive collection, designed to be used for both study and production. There is something here for everyone, from an Edna St. Vincent Millay antiwar classic to an adaptation of a Japanese fairy tale to a comedy about a teenager who think hes Walt Whitman. Refreshingly, the editors concentrate heavily on newer works, such as Who is Chasing Whom!, a play without words, and a witty drama concerning aliens in Cleveland; these give an enlightened picture of the theaters changing nature when compared with the straightforward vaudeville comedy The Potboiler. This will be a welcome addition to any collections drama section.
