Overview

Our ability to think is largely taken for granted. And for good reason: we are pretty good at it. However, this unthinking familiarity and confidence with our thinking prowess hides numerous traps - the biases which color our beliefs and the numerous rules of thumb each lead to the potential for errors in judgments. These errors can result in nothing more than mild annoyance or embarrassment or they can mean seriously damaging our lives.

In "Thinking Fast and Slow", Nobel Laureate Daniel Kahneman examines our two primary thinking 'Systems'; given the title, it isn't surprising that one of the systems is fast and intuitive, while the other is slower, more labor intensive, and more methodical. Analyzing how the interaction between these two systems (they are interdependent) produces strong thought synergy AND opens the way for erroneous leaps in thought, Dr. Kahneman gives a structure by which we can more confidently lean on our strengths and catch the times we are likely to err (with the intent of reducing our exposure to those cognitive mistakes).

In Thinking, Fast and Slow, Kahneman takes the reader on a grand trek, sharing many of the initial impulses and the explorations he and his partners traveled as they contributed to the sciences of psychology AND economics. This Short & Sweet Summary delivers the points made by the author and helps the reader 'get' the ultimate message, but does so by leaving Dr. Kahneman's personal anecdotes and musings aside.
