Review for Shortie like mine
Go and get your man Seven!
If you want to read a good drama filled book with funny loud people with real drama that happens only in the dirty south, then read Shortie like mine by Ni-Ni Simone and watch you'll get hooked. The book has everything: drama, sex, drugs and man stealing and a shocking ending. This book is a series and the books are coming in the winter of 2009!
Seven is a normal teenager, living in the dirty south as they call it, going through rough times of being a teenager, who has a lot of shady friends. She falls for the hot, cute, basketball player who by far is the best basketball player on his high school team, named Josiah. Seven has liked him ever since her friend introduced him to her. Josiah starts to flirt with Seven after he dumps her friend Deeyah. Seven doesn't feel bad because Deeyah knew that she liked him but she still went out with him. That is what you call a bad friend. The dramatic irony is that Josiah and Seven know that they are both like each other, but Deeyah doesn't, but what Deeyah doesn't know is that when her and Josiah were going out he would flirt with Seven the whole entire time. Deeyah is rally out of the loop until she hears this coming out of Josiah's mouth, "Where is my baby seven at?" This made it official that they were going out.
Seven is like every innocent, tough girl that you see at high schools across America and especially in books about teens. In this book they give you s visual image of how she looks and they go into great detail about her style, and they give you a visual of how she looks and how the other characters look. Shea is Sevens best friend in the book, she is the glue in the whole situation. Shea is always trying to tell her what to do with her fake friends, and helps her talk to Josiah. In Shortie like mine the characters are like real life people, not like a made-up person. There are very significant characters in the story because it has to do with all of them and their situation all tied into Sevens life. The main conflict in Shortie like mine is a young girl is torn between the love of her life and all the drama and conflicts of people trying to break them up. The book takes place in the south; it doesn't really say where but just that it's in the south. Also it takes at seven house and burger king and of course the school.
Ni-Ni Simone uses every type of writing elements you could possibly think of. She uses flashback, foreshadowing, cat fight. I can tell that she really wants us readers to come up with our own imagination on how the characters look and act in the book. To me Ni-Ni is one of my favorite authors that use foreshadowing because it makes me stop and think on m past and how it can relate to my life. The book is based on a first point of view, the narrator is reliable because I don't think she would like about her life.
If you like drama drama drama then Shortie like mine is the book for you! It will have you hooked to the point where you won't want to put it down. Always remember, go with your heart no what other people tell you. Because in the end you're the one who has to deal with the outcome for the rest of your life.
