Overview

The bigger they are, the harder they fall—in love.

Rough Riders, Book 7

Soldier Cameron McKay has found his niche, and it ain’t ropin’ steers and wearin’ spurs. His deputy sheriff job, plus battle injuries that ended his military career, keep him right where he wants to be: Off the ranch and away from his family’s pity. His darkest war memories are on lockdown, leaving him skeptical he’ll ever find a woman who wants a man who’s less than whole.

Domini Katzinski has had to control every aspect of her life since age eleven, when she was orphaned in the Ukraine. Watching others’ relationships crumble has convinced her to focus on the short-term and find a take-charge man to whom she can relinquish total sexual control. Cam fits the bill: gorgeous, with a brooding vulnerability no one else seems to see. Plus, he has his own handcuffs.

Once Cam gets over his surprise that sweet, shy Domini wants to be dominated, he is back to issuing orders. Their passion is as hot as a rocket-propelled grenade—and if Domini has her way, it’s a one-shot deal. Cam wants more, and launches a full-out sensual assault…until tragedy strikes, forcing him to change tactics as he tries to keep past demons from blowing their future together all to hell…

A Homerun Out of the Park Kind of Book! 10 Stars & More!

**The Perfect Novel for this Memorial Day Weekend! Unlike any other War-Hero Romance Novel Written!**

***Nothing But Sweet Unadulterated Lovin', Tons of Heart & Emotion, & Some of the Best Ingredients Ever Infused within this Amazing Western Family. A River of Love that Never Dries!***

Cam McKay, the youngest son out of the "Notorious McKay Clan," returns home a wounded Soldier, missing part of his leg & a pinky. Besides having to deal with his physical battle wounds, he's also trying to be the man he once was. Unfortunately, that man is lost within the shuffle of the men & women who return from war. They are NEVER the person they left as, the horrors they witness & are involved in, & coming to the conclusion that there's a COST to our FREEDOM, it isn't something easy to swallow.

Cam is determined to shun his family out of his life, to only speak to Colt & Keely, but NOT to be involved with any other family activities. He prefers to be on his own, to live in absolute solitude. Yet that is extremely difficult to do since he's a Sheriff in the town he resides in as well as most of his family members too.

Domini Katzinski was an orphan from Ukraine, who eventually became a US Citizen, she lived with Nadia & Anton (from Skylar & Kade McKay's Story---"Tied Up, Tied Down.") for a while, & then found her own place. She manages Dewy's Restaurant (which is mentioned in Carter & Maci McKay's story---Rode Hard, Put Up Wet), and is also located in the same building as AJ McKay's Message Therapy, & Skylar & India McKay's shared businesses.

Since Cam speaks with Colt who is India's husband, it was kind of inevitable that Cam would eventually stroll into Dewy's and lay eyes upon Domini. Cam knew Domini would be perfect for in & out of his bed. But what he didn't realize is once they began their sexcapades, would it be just sex between them or something else entirely.

This was unlike any other war-hero romance novel I've read thus far, usually it's the hero who pushes away the heroine to the point you as the reader become utterly infuriated with him. It takes most of the novel when he comes to the realization that she is his, "SAVING GRACE," and he eventually allows the barriers to be depilated. Definitely NOT the case with Cam & Domini.

Domini will NOT allow Cam to shield himself away from her. She pries away the layers of his self-preservation. She couldn't care less that he is missing certain body parts, she wants to know the man within. And for him to be COMPLETELY HONEST and TRUTHFUL to her.

Yet as much as Cam is determined to no longer shelter himself from Domini, she is HARBORING her own SECRETS. Fearing she would lose Cam if he knew the truth.

My conclusion was WAY-OFF base, but I was right about what occurs to Domini when she's a child. But sorry, I don't KISS & TELL!

Besides this being a love story between Cam & Domini, Ms. James also incorporates Anton's story as well. Which ends up being a much needed camaraderie to this novel. It conclusively brought forth an immense amount of HEALING to everyone involved, INCLUDING the rest of the McKay Clan. I've laughed my derriere off several times, & I've also cried (tears of sadness & intense JOY!)

I'VE ENJOYED ALL OF THE ROUGH RIDER NOVELS WITHIN THIS SERIES, BUT SO FAR THIS IS MY FAVORITE!

    Another hit read

Another great read by Ms James. I wasn't sure about this when it first came out, but once I started reading it I had a hard time putting it down. Cam and Domini's characters are great, they both have demons they are hiding and once they are out in the open it is hard not to be cheering for them. The first few chapters draw you in and you just can't help but keep on reading and the way Ms James brings in the other characters as well is always nice. After reading her other Rough Rider books you just can't wait to hear more about them as well as she continues the series. Can't wait for the next ones to come out.

    I Also Recommend:

I recomend this book to anyone who is bored with the same old love story and is looking for something a little juicier than normal. This is a great summer read at the beach or pool or even on a rainy day at home.

I liked this book because it was really juicy at some points and made me cry at others. Don't read this book if you are easily offended because the author really got into the juicy parts. But if you like to get away from the safe stuff for a little while this is the book for you. There are alot of characters in this story it was sometimes hard to keep all the brothers and cousins straight but I loved the story line. What can I say but enjoy.

This series is absolutely fantastic. I've never disappointed with ANYTHING she has written! There are 16 books in all in the Rough Rider Series starting with the Long Hard Ride and ending with Cowboy Take Me Away. If you've never read anything by Lorelei James you really should. You have no idea what you're missing.

Cameron(Cam) West McKay is former soldier wounded in Iraq and no

Cameron(Cam) West McKay is former soldier wounded in Iraq and now turned Deputy Sheriff. Cam has kept his family at arms length since returning home from the war. The only people Cam trusted with his injury was his sister Keely and his best friend Brock Tennyson. The only bright spot in Cam's life is Domini Katzinski and he's never had the courage to ask her out either. Domini Katzinski sees the man Cam tries to hide from everyone yet would love nothing more than for him to touch and kiss her. Yet when Cam does finally touch her he retreats from her leaving her confused and hurt. Domini's best friend Nadia DeMarco and her son Anton bring light into Domini's world. Domini wants to be with Cam but doesn't want to push the issue either. Domini invited to girls night out gets several stunning pieces of advice to help her get Cam. Cam and Domini come to an agreement but neither of them are admitting their feelings for one another. Then tragedy strikes leaving Anton an orphan and Domini demanding he stay with her instead of foster care. In a bold move, Cam gets Domini to marry him so she can keep Anton with her. But Cam is selfish enough to admit he's in love with Domini and wants to keep her forever. Will Cam and Domini admit their feelings? How will Cam and Domini be as parents? What are they hiding from each other? Will Anton accept Cam? Will Cam ever let his family back in his life? Your answers await you in Shoulda Been a Cowboy.

I have to admit it Cam is my favorite McKay. Here's this bruised and broken man that needs a good woman in his life yet can't seem to face other obstacles head on. Cam is strong silent type with a streak of bossiness that is unmatched to the other McKay men. Domini is the perfect compliment to Cam her quietness is full of steel brought about by her upbringing. This series keeps getting better and better with each book.

    Still Waters Run Deep 4.5stars

My, my I must say the innocently simmering flirtation between Domini Katzinski & Cam McKay was fanned enough to make sparks in this hot read. Somehow this feels as if it has the most sexual encounters and the widest range of emotion of the series. While you don’t have to read the books in order to follow the overall arc, it would be helpful to understand the relationships of these extended families and friends and to avoid confusion,

The promise oflust - sorry, I mean love between Cam & Domini is fulfilled when she overcomes her shyness and he puts his insecurities behind so that they both have the love they’ve each known lies with the other but were too afraid to pursue. Because neither Cam nor Domini are new characters and they have known history (from previous installments) it wasn’t surprising that the first sex scene was so early into this installment. On the one hand it was sweet how damaged they each were. Domini with paralyzing shyness and low self-esteem reveals her steely undercarriage while blossoming under the not so tender ministrations of insecure, handi-capable alpha Caveman Cam. On the other the detritus otherwise known as their pasts got to be a bit much – each was interesting, however it made me wish they didn’t have so much in common about their pasts. Proving once again that we tend to be harsher on ourselves than others since their friends and family saw them both as whole and happy. But it was because of those same securities that this story was sweet, emotional, sexy, dramatic and just plain hot all at the same time. And because that wasn’t enough emotion to go through this installment runs the gamut of heart-touching, heart-breaking, heart-aching and heart-wrenching moments as well. The mechanics of the story hold to their usual pattern or greatness and doesn’t disappoint. The usual suspects are the secondary characters (of course) and are known to us as well – they do the usual top notch job.

An attempt at 50 shades type plot!! I couldnt even finish it, it was a waste of my time as far as i got, the best part was the girls bar fight! I also tried to read book 1 in this series and it was just as ridiculous!
