Overview

Vashia's father is the planetary governor. Unfortunately, he's also a complete bastard. When he promises her to his lackey, Jarn, she panics. On the run in the nastiest corner of the galaxy, Vashia seizes her one chance at escape and signs on as a bride candidate for the elusive race of aliens known as the Shrouded, unaware that she very well may be chosen as the next Queen of Shroud

Of the seven, volatile Shrouded princes, Dolfan may be the only one that doesn't covet the throne. So the last thing he expects to find in the future queen is the woman of his dreams. If he wants Vashia, he must accept the throne as well. Unfortunately, his long-time rival has the same idea. Now, only the planet's sacred crystal can decide their fates, but what happens when the right woman is paired with the wrong man? And when Jarn comes after what was promised to him?

Meet the Author

Frances Pauli writes across multiple genres. Her work is speculative, full of the fantastic, and quite often romantic at its core. Whenever possible, she enjoys weaving in a little humor.

Once upon a time she was a visual artist, but she's since come to her senses. Now she fills her minuscule amount of free time with things like crocheting, belly-dancing, and abysmal ukulele playing.

She lives in central Washington State with her husband, two children, a pair of hairless dogs and five tarantulas.

I have recently rediscovered my love for the Sci Fi genre and was intrigued by the synopsis of this book. The story gripped me from the very beginning as Vashia runs to try and escape the life her father has traded her for. She trusts people and yet still gets herded to where others want her to be, all the time thinking it's her own choice.

The characters, whether they be 'major players' or just bit parts, all make an impact as you read their story. You will feel the desperation of the women leaving to go to Shroud. Have they made the right choice? Will their life get better or worse? The decision they have made though is final. Once they signed the contract, there is no going back. I loved Terran's attitude and she quickly became a favourite character. Her no bathing rule tickled me but I'm so glad that she found happiness.

The relationship between the 7 princes was incredible. So much intrigue and political maneuvering just between them and then we can include the Seer. I really enjoyed reading about the princes and their individual characteristics. They made me laugh and one of them made me cry, although to be fair, it wasn't really his doing! Dolfan and Mofitan have a love/hate relationship but it was brilliant seeing it develop and I was definitely happy with their work together.

The romance of this story is secondary to the Sci Fi intrigue. The relationship between Vashia and Dolfan is definitely meant to be and when the plot twisted, I ended up shouting out at my Kindle even though I knew it wouldn't go smoothly. I was just hoping for them to have a happy ending.

If you like Sci Fi, action and adventure and intrigue then I think you will love this book.

Action, Romance, lavender men, and a kick ass heroine, whats not to like? Shrouded captivated me from the very beginning. I simply could not put the book down. The back copy blurb on this one definitely grabbed my attention and Shrouded certainly delivered. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to read Shrouded by Frances Pauli and if you're looking for a great Sci-Fi read with a touch of Romance, this one is for you!
