Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sharon Oliver
This volume from the "All About Cats" series focuses on the popular Siamese breed. Packed with information in four short chapters, readers are invited to explore this history of the breed with its likely origins in Thailand, the variations on the modern Siamese breed and helpful information for caring for a pet Siamese cat. In addition to copious factual information, the author also includes a popular legend about Siamese cats that adds to the interest level of the mostly matter-of-fact text. Large photos with informative captions work to enhance the information and small fact boxes abound with facts such as, "Siamese cats are very vocal. They are known for making a raspy yowl." Small boxes containing definitions of words used on the pages' text are presented, but the glossary at the end only duplicates those words without any additions. In addition to the glossary, end matter includes suggestions for further reading, directions to the FactHound website for information on the Internet and a thorough index. The reading level of this book may be higher than the interest level, but the book will have appeal as an addition to the cat collection. Reviewer: Sharon Oliver
