Horrible Book, DO NOT waste your money buying.

I am Sicilian American and over the years my grandmother has passed down our Sicilian recipes to me. I've also been all over the island of Sicily and sampled all the foods I grew up eating and loving and many more. Eating the food in Sicily was like eating at my grandmother's house when I was a little girl. I bought this book with high expectations based on the reviews hoping to find more authentic Sicilian recipes. Unfortunately, this book is terrible and I will be returning it immediately. Looking at the recipes I was appalled. For example, her recipe for caponata -which is a cold eggplant dish that is very Sicilian and I make all the time- is listed in the book as being made with ketchup! KETCHUP!! I have never heard of such a thing. No self respecting Sicilian/Sicilian American would ever make caponata with ketchup! I dare you to find just an Italian that cooks with ketchup. Another example is her recipe for pasta alla norma. This is a pasta dish made with fresh tomato, basil and eggplant. She says to make it with generic pasta sauce and just add some eggplant. Then worse than that, pasta alla norma is traditionally garnished with ricotta salada cheese, she actually suggests using greek feta cheese! Greek feta cheese has a totally different flavor than ricotta salada and I don't understand why she would even suggest using it. If you are not Sicilian, even if you are not Italian, then maybe you can tolerate these terrible, unauthentic recipes. But for those of you who have somewhat of a clue about Italian or Sicilian cooking-you will be just as appalled by this book as I was.

    Fantastic!

I'm totally in heaven with the recipes and the author's stories and history of Sicily! It's a happy trip back to my Nana's kitchen! It has also given me some of my father's recipes that we thought were lost forever!
