    Way to dark and dreary

Not what a want to read in a romance from Harlequin. Way to dark and emotional and it just seemed to drag. It was well written and I think the story had promise but the author just got bogged down and couldn't find her way out. The end didn't even make me feel good and that's not how these books are supposed to make you feel. Do not wast your money!

    JUNK

I don't review books normally but I had to voice my two cents on this one. I find the book to be too long and boring. She repeats the same message over and over about Cassandra's issue with her ex man. To much drama not enough romance.

    GREAT storytelling, but BE WARNED

I wish I could rate this book higher, because the author put the necessary work into her writing to deserve it. This was easily one of the best written Harlequin Presents I've ever come across. The storyline was very original, yet not too far out there that you felt it was a reach. The heroine was SO well crafted for the audience, you felt all of her emotions. I traveled the emotional rollercoaster with her, and I applaud the author for allowing her to be so vulnerable and yet still believable, as many HPs would have made her a trite mess. Most of the book eloquently explores what all women have felt at some point-"why doesn't he love me? Why am I not enough?"

However, there were 2 real points of contention with the book that I would warn anyone about, and why I couldn't give it a 4 or even 5 star: #1-the emotional swells and vulnerability was sustained for too long. As a reader, there was a point when it felt like I really needed a break. I wish the author had allowed the heroine to return home before she did-to not only provide a change of scenery, because the palazzo felt like his turf and it was too dreary with all her emotions, but to also give us a break from the constant tumult. Instead, it felt gratuitous, like Jane Porter was wringing every single emotion she could for as long as she could.
Specifically, the point in the book when the heroine was packed with her suitcases and on the stairs ready to leave..that would have been a great time for her to go home, regroup and get on more neutral ground. Give us a break from the constant emotional bleeding, but that didn't happen. Eventually I felt like I needed to have some sort of emotional release, even after the you-knew-it-was-coming ending.

#2-I have a major issue with the fact that the heroine stayed with the unscrupulous villain in a certain situation, when it was ExTREMELY obvious he was cruel and she was in danger. I *hate* when a man has ripped your clothes, and you still say to the hero'its ok. I'll go back by myself. I dont need a chaperone". DUH! spoiler alert, no real harm befalls her, but I had such an issue with this, because it just felt too dumb and irresponsible for words, especially from a woman like the heroine who was not a dolt. The fact that she stayed in that room or allowed him to dictate terms to her with the 'dress' situation was a major letdown, it dimmed my believability. And made me angry at the heroine for her stupidity.

Overall good book, nice quick read. But I wasn't totally satisfied because I was put through the ringer, and by the end I felt a little disconnected by the hero. I knew the 'secret' he had, but the emotional blood letting had been so much, that I was tired by the time they made up.

An Emotional Roller Coaster----An Incredible Read

While reading The Sicilian's Defiant Mistress, I felt I was on an emotional roller coaster. It's passionate, sensitive, and emotional it's Jane Porter, at her best! This book was exceptional because it shared and described emotions women feel and men or some men never admit. Passion, lust, attraction, hurt, anger, betrayal and secrets. However, the emotional ride reading The Sicilian's Defiant Mistress was well worth it! Max and Cass are dynamite, dynamic, sensual, volatile, passionate, and explosive is all I can say. I read this in one sitting and when finished, I felt emotionally drained yet privileged to have read such a wonderful and incredible story. Back Cover: Cass can't continue with a relationship that involves just her body when her heart is breaking.... But the deal she made with Sicilian tycoon Maximos Borsellino was for sex - and when that fails to be enough for Cass, Maximos ends the affair. Cass is completely destroyed. Worse, she discovers she's pregnant
