Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 10 Up-Written for those "who hate Valentine's Day," this book is a decidedly unsentimental and hilarious adult look (or glare) at the age-old complaints about love and relationships. A buxom Eve and nude Adam scowl at each other across the opening two-page spread, setting the tone. Unhappy adults, drawn in the characteristic Steig cartoon style, battle endlessly, stuck together in a "sticky" relationship. One woman says of her partner, "He's such a dog" (he looks like one, too), while another holds a man at gunpoint demanding to be told she is adored. A wistful-looking gent observes a free-flying bird and thinks, "I bet he's not married." The humor is sophisticated and wry, la the New Yorker, and definitely over the heads of young people. This title belongs in the library, but not in the children's department.-Lee Bock, Glenbrook Elementary School, Pulaski, WI Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
