Overview

Siege of Titan is the first book in the epic new science fiction series that chronicles humanity's first interstellar confederation that is torn apart by religious strife and extremism.

In the first book of the Star Crusades series, the bloody struggle is told through the eyes of an illegal pit fighter named Spartan, who is forced to choose between incarceration or military service. Choosing the Confederate Marine Corps over servitude he begins his thirty long weeks of training. Together with his group of marines, they are honed into a force ready to be thrown into the meat grinder on the newest and greatest planet in the Confederacy, Proxima Prime. His term of service will soon become one of violence and carnage, as the entire sector is ripped apart by a brutal and virulent religious movement and its shocking plans.

What starts as a series of suicide bombings and hijackings through the Confederacy quickly turns into a full-scale revolution on Prime that threatens the entire planet and quickly spreads to its orbital Naval Station and beyond. As every warship and military transport in the area is rushed to its defence, the fate of the planet and the entire sector lie in the hands of a small number of rookie marines.

Siege of Titan is a classic work of realistic military science fiction set against the background of the first interstellar human empire.

Michael G. Thomas begins his sweeping, cinematic epic of a futuristic gladiator caught up in interstellar warfare with ¿Siege of Titan,¿ Book 1 of the Star Crusades series. This muscular, adrenaline-soaked book drops us in the middle of the action as it opens with the main character battling two female gladiators in an illegal, unlicensed pit that is ¿a pantomime of blood and showmanship.¿ It is the 7th year of the war. Spartan is a pit fighter extraordinaire attempting to buy his way out of indentured servitude, when he is arrested for accidentally killing an ATU officer. Now Spartan faces a choice: he can either spend 20 years in prison or commit to ten years of military service. He picks the latter and is sent with a group of marines to the planet Proxima Prime, where insurgents are fomenting a violent religious war. The marines train while traveling, and we enter a realistic world of war barges, scarred battleships, futuristic weapons systems and military maneuvers. As the warships are summoned to the planet¿s defense, a bloodbath follows, many twists occur, sinister secrets are revealed, and the ultimate fate of Proxima Prime rests in the battle-scarred hands of Spartan and a small band of marines. The author uses his deft command of language to lead us effortlessly from hand-to-hand combat to interstellar travel. We can smell the sweat of close quarters and combat, we can feel the tension and teamwork. There is poetry in his lean sentences: ¿Spartan straightened his back, feeling the muscles and joints in his body clicking and crunching.¿ ¿His eyes burned with the pain of a newly born day.¿ Wow. Spartan is a reluctant hero, but he is the perfect protagonist for what promises to be a hugely entertaining series. Highly recommended.

Amazing. I wish they would give some backround of the main character but other than that I totally love this book.

This is the first book in what is currently a 2 book series. I notice there are at least two more coming out soon as they are listed on Amazon. It is an interesting mix of current affairs and futuristic space and land based warfare. All the technology is based on known science with rotaing ship sections, rail guns, armour and religion all playing their part. I love the two main characters, Spartan, the hard ass marine and the the hot hispanic Teresa. Can't wait to see where the series goes.
