Children's Literature - Greg M. Romaneck
The "Cultures of the World" series is designed to afford middle through high school age readers an introduction to the nations that make up our steadily interconnected world. In this illustrated work, author Suzanne LeVert takes readers into the African nation of Sierra Leone. This small land has recently faced the terrible scourge of civil war. As a result, literally millions of people have been killed, displaced, or otherwise affected by the surging tides of battle. With a recent peace treaty, however, there is hope that this resource rich nation will be able to rekindle itself and become a reasonable place for people to live. As with other books in this fine series, Sierra Leone features solid writing, beautiful visual imagery, and a comprehensive introductory tone. This is a good place to start for a youngster reading or researching the West African region or Sierra Leone in particular. As a result, Sierra Leone represents a positive addition to an already sound geography series.
