The group's heady blend of biblical imagery, pastoral introspection, and raucous, pub-soaked heartache may be earnest to a fault, but when the wildly imperfect Sigh No More is firing on all cylinders, as is the case with stand-out cuts like "The Cave," "Winter Winds," and "Little Lion Man," it's hard not to get swept up in the rapture. Like their London underground folk scene contemporaries Noah & the Whale, Johnny Flynn, and Laura Marling, Mumford & Sons' take on British folk is far from traditional. There's a deep vein of 21st century Americana that runs through the album, suggesting a healthy diet of Fleet Foxes, Arcade Fire, Sufjan Stevens, Blitzen Trapper, and Marah. That melding of styles, along with some solid knob-twiddling from Arcade Fire/Coldplay producer Markus Dravs, helps to keep the record from completely sinking into the quicksand of its myriad slow numbers -- tracks like "I Gave You All," "Thistle & Weeds," and "After the Storm" are pretty and plain enough, but they neuter a band this spirited. Sigh No More is an impressive debut, but one that impresses more for its promise of the future than it does its wildly inconsistent place in the present.

    Dont regret watching VH1 That Day.

    like my heading says, i was watching the music video for "little lion man" & wanted to check out all their other music, i ended up downloading almost all their songs, & HAD A LISTEN. They were awesome, i love Indie Music.... people should really give them a listen.

    Love Love Love Mumford and Sons

    So profound

    Simply amazing. I am so grateful this band and their music have been introduced into my life. They have a way with lyrics and melodies that make things seem so profound and beautiful. It's something I have not seen with any other band, at least not as much. I'd love to see them live. God, I love their lyrics!

    WOW! A must buy!

    An amazing new find! My 19 year old daughter introduced me to this incredible English group. Their music is new and also old, in a Dylan sort of way. Strong vocals and instrumentals will grab at you, making it very difficult to stop listening for hours. Love the story telling lyrics and mood setting composition of each unique song. Hope they are working on new material, I already want more!

    My mind is blown and I'm basking in the Sons.

    I'm not completely sure why, but I find Mumford and Sons puts me in this majestic reflecting mood. It's great for driving, basking in the sun, living it up, jamming with your friends, or thinking about life. There is a ripple of the idea "be your own man" floating through these songs, and it slips into the back of your mind. The songs change subject and tone throughout the CD making them feel separate, but all keep the wonderful indie folk vibe with banjo highlights or trumpet refrains. The lyrics pound out a place in your mind with their lyric poetry and powerful images. It was everything I was looking for at the end of winter, slowly pushing into new beginnings. I recommend this album in the hopes that it will inspire someone else as it has me. <3
