Overview

After the sharp-eyed jay and the roaring lion, peace will come on dove’s gentle wing.

The dark forces that have driven a rift between the four warrior Clans are growing stronger. While Lionblaze remains focused on maintaining an uneasy peace among the Clans, Jayfeather is summoned to the mountains by a desperate plea—the Tribe of Rushing Water has been plunged into disarray and stands on the brink of being lost forever.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Reader anticipation runs high for this fourth installment of Erin Hunter's resilient Warriors Omen of the Stars series. Simmering tensions among the four warrior Clans are rising to a boil. As the great battle approaches, both Lionblaze and Jayfeather must undertake perilous assignments. A new release in the popular Warriors fantasy franchise.

Children's Literature
This is the fourth book in the author's latest series, "Warriors: Omen of the Stars." As an addition to the series it is an interesting adventure. As a stand-alone, it does not work well. The names and situations are confusing. It is part Watership Down, part role-playing, and part mysticism. The most interesting part of the book is experiencing the cats' lives from their point of the view. Humans' houses are called "Twoleg nests," and cats express surprise that birds (eagles) could be dangerous. Clans of cats, living in the forest, patrol their borders, send out hunting parties, and train the young kittens to defend their clans. The leader of each clan is also the medicine cat. Some cats have mystical powers, visiting the dark side or the realm of the ancient cats. The pervading themes are loyalty to the group, or clan, and honoring the sacrifices of the cats that went before. Included at the end of the book are directions for an online game with good graphics. Meet the Author

Erin Hunter
Erin Hunter

Erin Hunter is inspired by a love of cats and a fascination with the ferocity of the natural world. As well as having great respect for nature in all its forms, Erin enjoys creating rich mythical explanations for animal behavior. She is also the author of the bestselling Seekers series.

Biography

Erin Hunter is the nom de plume of three British writers who create enthralling, animal-centric YA fantasies in the tradition of Brian Jacques's Redwall books. In 2003, they launched their bestselling Warriors series with Into the Wild, the story of a domesticated kitten who leaves the comforts of his human home to join a family of feral cats living in the woods. Introducing a captivating world where rival cat clans struggle for survival, the book was an immediate sensation with animal- and adventure-loving preteens. Since its debut, Warriors has become a genuine publishing phenomenon, spawning a string of six-book miniseries, each with its own distinct story arc.

The Erin Hunter collaboration is an unusual but highly successful one. Characters and story ideas emanate from editor Victoria Holmes, who keeps track of previous plot lines, ensures continuity, and coordinates the details of a complex and growing cast of characters. Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry take turns writing individual books; then everything is vetted again through Holmes, who checks carefully to make sure the stories are told in a single, unified voice. With different writing styles at work, this would seem a daunting task. However, in a 2006 interview, Holmes explained her modus operandi: "I think of it as being able to "speak Erin Hunter", like speaking a different language, and after working on [so many] scripts, I know pretty much at once if a line or phrase doesn't sound right."

Although the Erin Hunter books are written for young readers, they do not shy away from difficult material. The animals face life-threatening dangers and experience pain, grief, and loss -- sometimes even treachery within their own ranks. But the authors are always careful to reinforce positive messages about family, friendship, loyalty, and love. Independently, Holmes, Cary, and Baldry stay busy with their own writing and editing projects; but in 2008, they reunited for a second animal fantasy series. Seekers: The Quest Begins features a trio of bears from different species (black, polar, and grizzly), who join together for an adventure-filled odyssey that will change their lives forever.

Good To Know

Fun facts about "Erin Hunter" and the Warrior books, plus advice for aspiring writers:
Cherith Baldry and Kate Cary have always loved cats -- and writing fantasy stories! Cherith is particularly interested in the stories of King Arthur, with all those glorious battles, knights, and a courtly code of behavior. Kate is fascinated by animal interaction and the way you can read all sorts of hidden motivation into what cats do. She's also not afraid of describing the goriest scenes!

Says Victoria Holmes, "I love being one of the Erins and frequently dream of being a cat running through a forest when I am coming up with new story lines. Teaming up with Kate and Cherith on the Warriors books is an unconventional way of working, but we love writing the books together and it means we can produce them much faster than a single writer could."

They came up with the single name, Erin Hunter, to avoid confusing their readers by having books from the same series filed in different places on the bookshelves.

Erin's advice for aspiring writers: "Read, read, and read some more! Make sure you read a wide variety of stories: fantasy stories teach you about making up completely new worlds, crime-solving stories teach you about handling a complicated plot, stories with lots of characters teach you how to describe relationships. Also, write as many stories as you can, even if no one else reads them. And remember that the best inspiration comes from what's around you -- Kate and Cherith go for long walks through the woods to find new locations for the cats to explore. They also spend hours watching their cats -- and other people -- to see how they behave in certain situations."

    1. Also Known As:
Erin Hunter is the pseudonym for three writers: Cherith Baldry, Kate Cary, and Victoria Holmes
    2. Hometown:
All three writers live in the U.K.

Warriors, Omen of the Stars book four Sign of the Moon

I have read evey warriors book except for Night whispers and this one. I read the first 75 pages of Night Whispers after going to the Warriors website and then clicking on Night Whispers. It brings you to the HarperCollins website. Jayfeather, Lionblaze and Dovepaw all know that Ivypaw is being trained by the cats of the Dark Forest and Ivypaw doesn't realize that they are evil. Lionblaze loves Cinderheart but is afraid to tell her about his true feelings. The dark forces that have driven a rift between the four warrior Clans are growing stronger. while Lionblaze remains focused on protecting ThunderClan from another deadly battle, Jayfeather recieves a desperate plea from the Tribe of rushing Water and must travel to the mountains in search of answers. But with the summons comes an ominous warning that suggests that the power of the stars may not be enough to save the Clans...

    Hello, this is Moonheart.
I sadly have not read this one yet, but I have to!!! This series is amazing, and I cannot wait to read this. What will happen? Will the Tribe turn out to hold some sort of long lost secret? Will Lionclaw prevent this "battle" ? I cannot wait!!

    To Erin Hunter(please reply)

Warriors is a great series and deserves more attention. And,probably, the only way is to make movies and TV shows based on the books. The website is one step toward all people knowing about Warriors. Many people comment on the idea such as Wetwhisker,a very important cat from Princess Clan,Cindersky,Shadowblaze, loyal Silver,Swiftfire, many anonymous, and myself,Swiftstream.(.. i d not have a Warriors account on the website so pleas do not look for me there and usually chat on Warrior comments)

Am i the only one who actualy is going to write a review on this book? Probably. Tap to read

I have been following the series since book 1 in into the jungle although it can get confusing at times it is a great series . It is also interesting to see how the cats view the world. Like how they think cars are monsters and houses are two-leg nests. I think Erin hunter did a fascinating job on this book. In my opinion if you get confused easily then you should not get this book unless you read these books and dont get confused. And to all those people who keep advertising their retarded clans through the reviews: if you have that much time on your hands to create clubs and mimick the clans in the books, then thats pathetic. Seriously guys/girls get a life and maybye actualy read the books and put actuall reviews on the book . Daniel T.
