SIGN OF TRUTH is Tish Hinojosa's most powerful project yet, referencing the singer-songwriter's southwestern background more than her Mexican-American one this time out although three tracks feature Spanish. Cowboy Junkie Margo Timmins and Austin denizen Sara Hickman add harmony vocals as Hinojosa breaks out some of the most interesting melodies of her career. Searching out the varied faces of truth through a dozen original songs, she questions the balance between success, money, and love in the title cut and reflects on the brief glimpses of truth in "Mona Lisa by the Rio Grande." Her journey darkens -- painful experiences are the guides in "Fire in Winter," "Taste of Dying Summer," and "Fence Post" -- and rises ...

Hinojosa takes a Dylanesque turn in the reflective "Dreams I Have Seen" before moving on with hope in "Song for the Journey." Framing vividly painted stories that are at once personal and universal, Tish Hinojosa leaves the listener plenty of room to reflect on the wonderful SIGN OF TRUTH. Kerry Dexter
All Music Guide - Bob Gottlieb
This Texas born and raised songstress has done nothing but grow stronger, both in vision and her ability to express this understanding, by huge strides as the years have passed. She wrote, or co-wrote, all 12 of the songs on this disc. If you aren't familiar with her she sings in both English and Spanish, and her songs express both the duality and the oneness, as well as the peace and love she has found from being raised in both cultures on the border by a strong and loving family. There is something about her songs and manner that have always spoken strongly of a greater truth, and this is most clearly expressed here. Her longtime friend and accompanist Marvin Dykhuis is on all manner of guitars and stringed instruments, as well as an exceedingly solid group of exceptional musicians that echo the intensity of feelings being expressed very ably assist her. There are people such as Chip Dolan on keyboards, David Grissom on guitar, Lloyd Maines on pedal steel, and the wonderful accordion accents of Joel Guzman. This is a disc that speaks of love and growing, the puzzles in life, and somehow taps into the rhythm of the heart. It is a disc that brings comfort with it carried in her voice even when she speaks of love that has vanished. There is a sincerity here that is getting difficult to find. A disc from the heart, that is aptly named.

    Captivating

I first heard the songs of this album in a radio interview with the artist. I enjoyed the small taste of the music so much that I couldn't wait to get my hands on the whole thing. I was definitely not disappointed. The music is like a breath of fresh air in an industry full of mostly the same old things. The Spanish and southwest influences add a spicy flavor that is irristable.

    Bravo, Tish

This is my first listening to Hinojosa and I am transfixed. How have I missed her for all these years? Rounder should be shot for not promoting this artist more. Here is a strong and varied collection of first rate melodies, wonderful arrangements, lovely vocals. Tex Mex elements - accordian swells, spoken Spanish, lilting rhythms - build in an additional layer of richness without being obtrusive. I've been playing my copy (a promo advance copy) ceaselessly for five days, something I never do. The tracks pop into my head at random and I run to slip on the disc. When was the last time you bought an album like that? Very much in the singer-songwriter vein, those who like Lucinda Williams, Roseanne Cash, Martin Sexton, David Wilcox, Julie Miller, and even country singers like Patty Loveless will fancy this album.
