Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
In The Color of Love and Significant Others, Kitt delved into issues of interracial relationships and biracial children with great sensitivity and understanding. And here she does it again. Dallas Oliver's life looks better from the outside than it does from within. After a childhood spent largely in a middle-class neighborhood in Long Island, New York, she's making her way as a writer and has a successful boyfriend. But the boyfriend is excruciatingly self-involved. He's the kind who, having stood her up for five hours, tells her "I guess I was wrong to think you'd understand what it's like for a black man in this business." Dallas's childhood memories are tainted by racism, including an attempted rape by a neighbor. She was saved then by Alex Marco, and it looks like the Italian-American Alex, now an ex-Navy SEAL, is trying to involve himself in her life again. Alex is a strong, capable and caring hero. He's got his own childhood scars and secrets but they never overwhelm his character. Instead, they add emotional richness to a story of two outsiders both of whom are willing to buck convention for the warmth, patience and understanding of real love. (June)

One of Sandra Kitt's Best Novels

I couldn't put this novel down. It is so good and I highly recommend it. I love the way Kitt writes about real life black relationships. I love it when you can relate and connect with the novel you are reading.

    Simply Sweet.

I read this book a while ago, but I can still remember it vividly. I loved the characters as well as the storyline. Kitt is truly gifted at writing a good tale.

    I liked it

I enjoyed this book. I liked the way she handled the issue of interacial dating. I thought the book was a little drawn out, but some could call that great attention to detail. I wished it would have moved faster, but I still enjoyed it. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars is because I thought it didn't flow well, the story developed slowly and it was a little predictable.

    Wonderful, insightful read!

I really enjoyed this book. So much I hated to put it down. Without giving it away I must say it is a very intelligent read. Made me think about life and how I would if in the same situation react myself. Wonerful!

    A Good, Consistant Read

SIGNIFICANT OTHERS was lengthy, yet, for a reason. The characters were fleshed out carefully and a story was developed nicely. My favorite was Kent, not because of his biracial heritage, but because of his struggle with himself to fit in somewhere...anywhere, for that matter. Kudos, Ms Kitt. A worthy accomplishment for anyone who has felt left out and want to join the human race on his or her best terms.
