As a French born woman, I am always a bit skeptical of English language novels set in France. I rarely feel the authors truly grasp the beauty and complexity of my culture and history. That was NOT the case with Leah Marie Brown's Silence in the Mist. This novel is beautifully written and impeccably researched. She did justice to the dark, violent history of the French Revolution and tugged at my heartstrings. I would highly recommend this novel for anyone who loves France, history, or romances (though I thought this novel was less of a romance and more of a historical adventure/suspense). The heroine is based on a little-known spy for the monarchists. Her daring and bravery will amaze you, as will Brown's deft ability to build a scene.
