Overview

Old hatreds die hard. Old love dies harder.

On Meli Galdes’ home planet, the struggle for power is a bloody, full-contact sport—in business and on the battlefield. For years her lethal skills have been a valuable asset in advancing her family’s interests. She’s more than earned her right to retire, but her kinsmen have one last favor to ask.

Kill the man who ruined her life.

Celino Carvanna’s razor-sharp business acumen—and skills with a blade—won him the freedom to do as he pleases. There’s only one thing he can’t seem to control—his reaction to the mysterious woman who tantalizes his senses. Her eyes alone set his blood simmering, stirring ridiculous adolescent fantasies about breasts and honey. With a few words she dissects his soul. Who is she? And how does she slide so easily under his well-guarded skin?

It’s almost too easy to draw Celino within the kill zone. Meli plans to revel in him. Drink him in. Wring every drop of pleasure out of every moment.

And when she’s sure he belongs to her, she will finally repay a decade’s worth of pain—in a single, brutal dose of reality.

    Excellent again.

Excellent novella. I really enjoy the double perspective swinging from one main character to the other. Every time Ilona puts the pen to paper another set of fascinating, strong, dangerous and for paranormal romance endearingly human characters emerges. Plot is tight and twisty. Highly recommend.

I LOVE the world this author(s) created. It takes a lot of talent I think to create such a complete world in so few words. Kudos to the author.

    unfulfilled potential

When reading a short story you make some allowances - not as mucb background and less elaborate settings as the reader is inly beung shown a glimosr of the world in which the story is set. The Silent Blade fully describes the settings and the world in brief almost parenthetical paragraphs but fails to fully flesh out character motivations in what turns out to be an unfulfilling conclusion. As a lighthearted pageturning tryst into a new world not to be deeply analyzed this was an enjoyable novella. Ultimately though the world of Silent Blade is an interesting and fully thought out one that calls for a novel not a novella in order to do it and its inhabitants justice.

ENTHRALLING! You will enjoy this alternative world.

The protagosit is a special from of assasin biund by family ties which were unbound in order to protect the family from finacial & physical retailation. Remeniscent of Mercedes Lackey's strong female protagonist will existing in the science fiction world.

    They did it again!

If they write it, (husband and wife team, you know) I will read it. They are that good. Paranormal Romance is too weak a genre to stick this under. This is Fantasy - with all the reality that word can imply.

Intense, powerful characters, fast paced action, and no hokey (a.k.a. mawkishly sentimental) love scenes. Real grit, real love. Read it! You'll be glad you did.

Short but action packed. Worth it! Also check out Silver Shark which comes after this. Both are exciting with a unique approach to plot and action. I really enjoyed them both.

    good short story

This was good, would have been better if it had been flushed out to a full book so it was less rushed and the characters could be developed a little better.

    A Major Letdown

I'm not sure what to categorize this book. It is more like a romantic novel with some scifi hints. It's definitely not what I was expecting. I would've liked if the authors gave a brief recount of why earth is now the "old earth" and what led up to the change. I was disappointed in the old time view on a women's worth and arranged marriages. The heroine was wishy-washy and a pathetic excuse of a women who let's a guy walk all over her, an undeserving and immature guy at that. For being so far into the future and technologically advanced, the book's society seemed no better than our ancestors of 500 years ago. In truth, this story focused more on the character's relationship than the potentially exciting world the Ilona Andrews team could've built. The sex took up a lot of this novella and it was mediocre at best, and clearly one of the two duo has a breast fetish.

I love the Ilona Andrews duo, their Kate Daniels series is exceptional and the Edge series, while more romance oriented than I usually like, is still fantastic! Never would've thought I'd be rating any of their books this low, but.......here we are.

To my fellow dark urban fantasy readers, regardless of my gripes this novella had some rays of interest and wasn't entirely bad, but it wasn't engaging and spellbinding either. I don't think you'd be missing anything if you skipped this, however, if you do indeed read this novella I offer a forewarning. Expect to be annoyed with the lack of basic background reference and prepare to make use of your quick-trigger-page turner finger.

I love this story. The premise is tantalizing: people, some with fantastic abilities and others with none, who choose to have themselves physically enhanced into weapons for love of family. And the authors' ability to sweep their readers right into the heart of the action make for an exciting start to a new series; I hope the duo-authors continue it.

A Brilliant Start to Hopefully a New Series by Ilona Andrews

Silent Blade and Silver Shark are really quick reads, so I don't want to give too much away. So let me just say this, if you're looking for a new world to explore with a lot of hidden possibilities and characters that are not only intriguing in what they can do, but who they are, then you definitely want to pick up from Silent Blade and Silver Shark Ilona Andrews. Considering Silent Blade is only $2.5o and Silver Shark is $2.99, there's really no reason not to get them. They are worth every penny.
