Overview

Raised near New Orleans as one of six children, Dorothy Newton was surrounded by abuse while living in poverty, but despite her upbringing, was destined for victory. Earning a degree in Sociology and Business, the first in her family to graduate from college, Dorothy found herself living her dreams in Dallas and married to celebrity Super Bowl Champion, Nate Newton, who was a former American football offensive lineman in the National Football League who played for the Dallas Cowboys and the Carolina Panthers – but all that glittered was not gold.

Before long the relationship turned abusive and Dorothy was trapped with no one to tell and nowhere to run. In Silent Tears, Dorothy shares her experiences of domestic violence and abuse, pain, loss, survival, hope, recovery, and victory. An inspirational speaker and Bible Study leader, Dorothy is involved in several charities and is the Practice Administrator for a major healthcare organization where she is pursuing her M.B.A. Dorothy is the proud mother of Nathaniel Newton III (Tré) and Nate King Newton. She is living a life filled with purpose and joy, passionate to see others walk in freedom and forgiveness.

Editorial Reviews

Emmitt Smith
We’ve been friends with Dorothy Newton for years. She is also one of the most spiritual people we’ve ever met, something she leaned on for strength during the trials of her marriage. The simple, straight-forward way she imparts her lifetime of wisdom in her autobiography, Silent Tears, makes every page an inspiration. It’s a book filled with love, perseverance and proof that in America second acts aren’t only for men, women have some pretty remarkable ones as well.
Nate Newton
Whether you hit a woman once, or you hit her 50,000 times, there is no place in our make up as a man that allows for us to ever do that. It is unacceptable, that’s the bottom line … for a man to beat a woman—he’s a coward.
Pat Summerall
It is a privilege to call Dorothy Newton friend. Her life is an inspiring example of a courageous woman of God who values faith, family, and friends as our ultimate earthly treasures. She shares her past and present experiences with others in the hope that they too can celebrate life in abundance now and forever.

I loved the quotes and scriptures before each chapter but this book was rough on me; it broke my heart... I wanted to reach out to the author during this emotional roller coaster... Although the book has great spiritual encouragement and the author is a woman deeply rooted in the Word of God, you want to ask, "Where was God during this abuse?" The author knows the answer because she's a motivator, a mentor, a safe haven, and an encourager who ministered to many during the entire ordeal... She demonstrates great strength and an incredible will to survive and rise above it all... She reminds me of the story of the shoemaker who fixes everyone’s shoes but his own... This novel is one more account of how celebrity status can enable an abuser and destroy a family... It records; the effects of an abusive relationship; the emotions and struggles the family suffers as they are being victimized; the reason a woman suppresses her feelings and covers for her abuser; and the helplessness of family and friends due to the victims’ choice to stay… The author chronicles the stages of abuse and reveals how abuse can escalate no matter how much you love the Lord... As the story travels through the cycles of betrayal, abuse, rescues, apologies, forgiveness, happy times, and back into abuse, it's difficult to comprehend how this woman and her boys could survive, forgive, and heal without the abuse impacting their self-worth... I totally agree with a statement in the Epilogue: “At the bottom line, no matter how much support is offered, a woman will not leave an abusive relationship until she is ready.” I personally know this to be true... I encourage you to read this book to equip yourself with useful information to help someone going through any form of abuse… It matters not whether you've experienced physical violence, verbal or sexual abuse first-hand, you probably have encountered someone who has...
