Overview

NOW IN BOARD BOOK, Nancy Tafuri's delightful tale of a silly little goose's misguided quest for the perfect place to make her nest.

"Early one morning, Goose sets out to make a nest." Honk! The first place Goose finds looks nice and warm. But "Silly Little Goose!" That pen is for the pigs! Then Goose finds someplace nice and soft, a rag box in the tool shed. But "Silly Little Goose!" The cat and her kittens already live there. Lovable, muddled Goose finally encounters an old straw hat, which readers have seen tumbling throughout the story. It's warm, soft, quiet, cozy -- perfect! Goose lays her eggs and watches over them until -- crack! crack! crack! -- out pop eight wonderful peeping chicks. "Hooray for Little Goose!"

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
A goose wanders about the barnyard looking for a place to make her nest in Silly Little Goose! by Nancy Tafuri, now available in a board-book edition (PW praised the "lovely nostalgic sensibility" of the picture book, published last year). When Goose alights in the pig pen and the chicken coop the animals protest; fortunately, the farmer's hat, carried by the wind across each spread, finally settles and makes the perfect resting place for her eggs.
Children's Literature
Goose is in search of the perfect place for a nest. She is looking for someplace warm, soft, quiet and cozy, but each place she finds on the farm has already been claimed by other animals—the pigs, the cats, the sheep and the hens. The wind blows, bringing the farmer's hat to rest in just the right spot. While the idea of a hat for goose to lay her eggs is not new, Tafuri's story for very young children has a delightful freshness to it. The illustrations, in a soft palette, are clear and simple. The animals are bold and the backgrounds clean. The hat can be seen on each spread and will encourage young children to study each page. They will quickly join in repeating the refrain, "Silly Little Goose!" It is perfect for toddler and preschool story time, and to share while sitting on a parent's lap. Now available in a board book edition. 2003 (orig. 2001), Scholastic Press,
