Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The story doesn't really seem to make a lot of sense. Miss Milly is planning a trip and she is loading up her suitcase with many bizarre items. The opening of this story challenges readers as to why she is packing the items that she does. First she packs a snow man and everyone knows that it is going to melt; the rest of the scenes show the suitcase filled with water. Next she packs a baseball but not the bat. Soon some goldfish join the collection in the suitcase but they jump out, only to be put back in again. There is a hotdog, cupcakes, shoelaces, doormat, doorknob and much more. What is this crazy woman up to? The pictures are full of all these things and offer readers plenty of humor and pictures to help decode words. What a surprise when you find out what prompted Miss Milly to pack this collection of silly things! A Level 1 book in the Scholastic reader series which is written with sight words, simple sentences and 50 to 250 words. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
