Silly Sausage is a dachshund that not only likes to eat sausages, he also likes to eat everything he finds around the house. His family decides that he needs to go to school to learn how to behave. The other family pets, who are two mean cats, make fun of him and scare him about what will happen to him at school. Sausage is pleasantly surprised when the teacher is nice, and he is able to learn to obey all the signals. When he gets home, the cats are jealous so they mix up the signals, and Sausage becomes confused. Then the school has a contest, but Sausage has lost his confidence. Just in time, he smells sausage at the end of the maze. He gets excited, and quickly runs through the maze to become the winner. The book has five chapters with just a few sentences on each page. Black and white cute illustrations similar to cartoons fill the pages. Conversation bubbles are used throughout and add to the fun and action. This is a good story for readers who are beginning to read chapter books and need simple text and high interest subject matter along with the visual motivation provided by the illustrations.
