(I was given this book for free on a read-to-review basis.) This is book two in the ‘midnight fire’ series, and kicks off a few months after the end of book one – Ignite. **Warning: unavoidable spoilers for book 1 – Ignite** Kira has recovered from her coma, and has had time to graduate from school. Now she’s going off to a conduit town to get in some training over the summer, to learn how to control her power, and to learn how best to use it when fighting vampires. Her best friend Luke who is also a conduit is going with her, and her boyfriend Tristan, who is a vampire, will be away from her for the summer. Things never go right for Kira though, and there’s a lot for her to deal with in this book. She needs to know if her real mother is still alive, what being a half-breed means, and to learn how to control her powers, before they control her. This involves a trip to the conduit town – Sonnyville, and no shortage of fights with vampires, including Diana; who tried to kill Kira in book 1. There’s also plenty of other things distracting Kir;, what do the people in Sonnyville think to her half-breed status? Is her power a blessing or a curse? Can she really be with Tristan when so many people disapprove? What are her real feelings for Luke? Will she ever be able to control her powers? I liked this book, and I actually think it’s better than the first. Kira is a likeable character, and although I hate love triangles you can sympathise with Kira for having to choose between her tall, dark, and handsome vampire boyfriend Tristan, and her best friend and fellow conduit Luke. There are plenty of secrets revealed in this book, and also plenty of secrets hidden. Kira has to decide which boy she wants to be with, and find a way to stop the vampires too – no small task considering how new to all this to her, and work out what being a half-breed means and the powers she has. I liked the storyline, and there was no awkwardness like there was at the beginning of the first book. I liked that Kira isn’t a snivelling girl who needs to be protected, but at the same time isn’t stupid enough to go into things without thinking first, and admits when she does need help. I really like both Tristan and Luke, and I really feel for both of them. Tristan has the worry that he will lose Kira, whilst Luke is in pain because he’s worried he’ll never have her the way Tristan does. I don’t know how she’s ever going to choose between them! Overall; I enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to the next book – Blaze! 7 out of 10.

Simmer starts with Kira packing for “conduit boot camp” as she calls it, a few months after Ignite ends. Luke and Kira are going to Sonnyville for a couple months. Of course, Tristan can’t go. I mean, it is a whole town of vampire killers. So instead Tristan is going to hunt down Diana. Right away I am saddened by Kira and Tristan’s goodbye. I just don’t want them to be apart. When you get a couple you really like, you want them to be together. And besides, at this point, I’m not entirely sure I want her to be alone with Luke for a variety of reasons. It’s not that I don’t trust him, because I do. But as much as Kira has, I’ve invested myself in Tristan and I don’t want anyone messing with that. “If there was anything her new, slightly insane, life taught her, it was sleep whenever you got the chance because you never know when a vampire was going to come along and try to flip your car over” I am really digging this series. There are more secrets than you can shake a stick at, and lots of drama and love triangles to keep you busy and entertained. There are more battle scenes in this book than the first, and I thought they were awesome. I love action scenes! Tristan is still mischievous and broody as in the first book, and I love him even more for it. And the devotion between Kira and Tristan is exactly what I want to see in a romance such as theirs (hello?! Opposites attract, them against the world!) There are a lot of plot twists in this book as Kira is determined to find out more about a certain someone (I am keeping their identity a secret since I’m also posting the review for the first book today also). I really love how determined Kira is. And as she discovers exactly how powerful she is (hint: super duper powerful) I love how she manages to roll with it. She isn’t running from what she is, she is embracing it. And she’s got her two best guys by her side, even if they are sworn mortal (immortal?) enemies. This trio is near perfect, even for the flaws and fights. I definitely think you should give this series a try. Like I said in my previous review, it really takes a unique spin on all the vampire stuff. And Kira’s sun-channeling power is pretty darn cool, and I can’t wait to see what other powers she develops.

After reading, Ignite, the first book in the Midnight Fire Series, I dived right into reading "Simmer". "Simmer" picks up from "Ignite. Kira has graduated from high school, and now is taking a year off before she attends school. She's off to go to Sonnyville with Luke (her trainer and her best friend). She's ready to meet people just like her (well sort of). Kira is a special kind of conduit because she's part Protector and part Punisher. There's never been any one like her for the past thousands of years. Every conduit out there is afraid of her kind because they really can't explain what she is. Luke is there for her when she arrives to Sonnyville. She is forced to leave Tristan, so he can find Diana. Diana of course is still trying to kill Kira. When Kira arrives at Sonnyville, everyone is fascinated about her. They want to see what she is capable of. Kira ends up butting heads with one of the councilman though, who ends up being family. Once there in Sonnyville, she has to prove herself. Her best friend Luke is there to help her. Kira learns though from Luke's sister that he has feelings for her. Luke's sister doesn't want Luke getting hurt. Trouble is coming for Kira though. Vampires have found out where she is and now she's putting every one at risk at Sonnyville. Tristan is there to help her finally...but now she's stuck between Tristan her boyfriend and Luke her best friend who won't admit he has feelings for her. Kira in "Simmer" realizes she has several new abilities. One of them being able to hear inside of Luke's head. It can be a good ability...but sometimes awful one. On top of everything, she is on a mission to find out if her Mom is alive. She finally knows the story behind her Mom and Dad and what may have happened, but she really needs to find out the truth. "Simmer" definitely helps clarify more what Kira is and what may happen to Kira with her abilities. I love the fact, that Kaitlyn explained a little more about the conduits and why they are scared of Kira. I also loved the twists and turns with when Kira met family in Sonnyville and also at the ending. Definitely wasn't expecting that kind of twist to the story. It did have a cliff hanger at the end, and I love cliff hangers. In "Ignite" there were several spelling errors, but in "Simmer" not so much, which is a plus. =) That was the only flaw I really saw in Simmer. This is a good young adult series. It definitely has another twist to vampires unlike the usual paranormal books out there and who can kill vampires. "Simmer" has finally grew into the love triangle mess like usual love stories have when it comes to two guys having feelings for the main female character. I think I fell more into Luke in "Simmer" then I did with "Ignite". "Ignite" it was all about sexy, Tristan, but in "Simmer", Luke becomes the shining star. At least that's my opinion. I'm glad to finally know a little more wants going on and I can't wait to find out what happens next. I recommend this book to any YA reader out there who loves reading different twists in the paranormal world. Be prepared for some amazing fight scenes between the conduits and vampires. Let's just say I'm glad conduits aren't real. Kira is the most feared one though...and I'm wondering how she is going to hold up in the next book.

This book swept me off my feet! The whole love-triangle thing is great! Many reviews state that this is a rip-off Twilight saga deal, but I strongly disagree. Sure, it has a few similar elements to it that Twilight has, but this book is not about some challenged-for-no-reason teenager who leads two guys on and is so skittish that it becomes annoying. No. This captivating book is about a strong girl who has been lied to her whole life about everything and still deals with it with great maturity while trying to handle the hassels of her blood being the fate of human kind and the struggle of finding the man of her dreams. This story never ceases to amaze me. Can't wait o read the third book! Whoo-Hoo!!!!

Whole series was entertaining. Think I got the first for free, but then bought the rest as soon as I finished the one before! Wouldnt say like Twilight, but can see where some would make the comparison.
