Overview

In Simon Bloom, The Gravity Keeper, Simon Bloom and his friends used the Book of Physics to narrowly defeat villainess Sirabetta. Now Simon's nemesis, stuck as a helpless thirteen-year-old, wants revenge. In this exciting sequel, Simon and company must enter the mysterious undersea realm of the Order of Biology to fi nd Sirabetta before she can restore her powers. Aided by old allies and some new ones, the kids struggle with fi erce beasts, dangerous enemies, and their own evolving abilities. Blending humor, suspense, and science - and throwing new octopus powers into the mix - Michael Reisman brings us another outstandingly original adventure.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
When you read Michael Reisman's book, you will think outside the box. Magic and pseudo-science play a big part with the three twelve-year old seventh-graders, Simon, Owen, and Alysha. The narrator is eleven years old and also a seventh-grader. The many characters have magical abilities that allow them to perform feats like flying without an airplane and morphing into a man from a bird. The cast of characters includes professors, teachers, and others, including the seventh-graders and their principal. The principal sends Simon, Owen, and Alysha on a dangerous, secret mission. They are not allowed to tell their parents. A character, Sirabetta (called "Sir"), has an adversarial role and causes pain to Simon, Owen, and Alysha. The story involves the Order of Physics and the Order of Biology. The person who is awarded the Teachers' Edition is given great strength. Each character has a distinct personality. For example, Sirabetta was thirty but changed to a thirteen year-old girl. She is Simon's enemy and wishes him deadly harm. Simon is strengthened through Octopus characteristics he developed. Owen disappears when camouflaged. Simon, Alysha, and Owen are referred to as "the kids." They see strange phenomena on their trip, such as beasts, fish that climb, and many others. Many strange events occur with magical help and direction. This book will appeal to both boys and girls and perhaps encourage them to study real science after reading about pseudo-science. This is the author's second published novel and his first sequel. Reviewer: Jennie DeGenaro

I wish the third one would just come out already, its a fantastic series! I love that its not a wizardly, just plain, unexplicable magic, this a great kind of book. And yes, i do appreciate magical fantasies. But this book is really cool and i would deffinitely reccomend it to anyone! And yes, the third one is in progress. FOR SURE!
HONEST-TO-GOODNESS THERE IS A THIRD BOOK IN THE WORKS!!!!!!!! SOOO EXCITED!!!

Simon Bloom and his friends have a cool job. They are part of the Physics Guild, for which Simon is the co-keeper of the Teacher's Edition of the Book of Physics. They have the ability to use formulas to control the different laws of physics and get to use them to save the world or just have a fun day in the park.

Things take a turn for the worst, however, when the Order of Sciences decide that there can only be one Keeper of the Physics Guild. To make matters worse, Sirabetta, the tattooed, formula-wielding villain from the first book, SIMON BLOOM: THE GRAVITY KEEPER, has escaped to Biology World and is bent on taking over the world again!

Will Simon be able to save the world from Sirabetta? Will he remain the keeper of the Physics Guild?

This book is fast-paced, entertaining, and fun to read. The characters are well-developed, the plot is unique, and the humor throughout the book is well worth the read. Lovers of science fiction, fantasy, and adventure will enjoy reading this series.

    Not just for geeks!

I enjoyed the increased role of the Narrator. Once again, in the style of Simon Bloom, the Gravity Keeper, there is lots to discuss in a classroom for Reading and Science. I recommend this book if you like a little more of the hows and whys answered, rather than just pure wizardry.
