Overview

One recent December, at age 53, John Kralik found his life at a terrible, frightening low: his small law firm was failing; he was struggling through a painful second divorce; he had grown distant from his two older children and was afraid he might lose contact with his young daughter; he was living in a tiny apartment where he froze in the winter and baked in the summer; he was 40 pounds overweight; his girlfriend had just broken up with him; and overall, his dearest life dreams--including hopes of upholding idealistic legal principles and of becoming a judge--seemed to have slipped beyond his reach.

Then, during a desperate walk in the hills on New Year's Day, John was struck by the belief that his life might become at least tolerable if, instead of focusing on what he didn't have, he could find some way to be grateful for what he had.

Inspired by a beautiful, simple note his ex-girlfriend had sent to thank him for his Christmas gift, John imagined that he might find a way to feel grateful by writing thank-you notes. To keep himself going, he set himself a goal--come what may--of writing 365 thank-you notes in the coming year.

One by one, day after day, he began to handwrite thank yous--for gifts or kindnesses he'd received from loved ones and coworkers, from past business associates and current foes, from college friends and doctors and store clerks and handymen and neighbors, and anyone, really, absolutely anyone, who'd done him a good turn, however large or small. Immediately after he'd sent his very first notes, significant and surprising benefits began to come John's way--from financial gain to true friendship, from weight loss to inner peace. While John wrote his notes, the economy collapsed, the bank across the street from his office failed, but thank-you note by thank-you note, John's whole life turned around.

A Simple Act of Gratitude is a rare memoir: its touching, immediately accessible message--and benefits--come to readers from the plainspoken storytelling of an ordinary man. Kralik sets a believable, doable example of how to live a miraculously good life. To read A Simple Act of Gratitude is to be changed.

Really, really enjoyed this book. Read it at a perfect time, as I was thinking what my New Year's Resolutions might be. I habve already given this book to several of my friend

I learned about this book through the Sunday paper right around the beginning of January.
That is when I usually am contemplating what my New Year's Resolutions will be. I read the 'sample' and decided this is something I could do this next year. The book was very enjoyable as the author took us through one difficult year of his life. After only 30 days into this project, I am on Thank You Note #43. What I didn't expect, especially this soon, is how much I have changed. Every single place I go, I am always cheerful and positive, in anticipation of the other person responding the same way, so when I get home I can send a thank you. Early on in my thank you note project, the secretary at the chiropractor's office where I have gone for almost 20 years, said to me, " no one has thanked me in the 10 years I have been here". I challenge anyone to read this book, and try the principle for one year, and not be changed in a fantastic, grateful way!

    Uplifting!

This little book is an amazing treasure and should not be missed by anyone. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to celebrate...but mostly I closed it after the last page knowing I'd been changed. This is one ebook that I will soon be repurchasing in hardcoer so I can share it. Thank you Mr Kralik for sharing your journey.

Thank you cards….What are we grateful for in our lives?

A successful Judge, John Kralik, finds himself plummeting out of control with an ex wife, child support, business losing ground and finds he’s lost contact and closeness from the important people in his life. He stopped suddenly and took the time to scrutinize his life and its meaning. He sat down and started writing out thank you notes to people in his present and past life to show his gratitude for their part in his life. How inspired. It makes me want to sit down and write a thank you note to someone and the more I think about it, I am quite sure I could find someone to thank every day. There is not a better gift to someone than to shed light on how they made a difference in your life.

    Highly recommended-inspring.

This book demonstrates the value of an attitude of gratitude! Life events happen--it's the stories you tell yourself about these events that determine the qualify of your life. And, as this story demonstrates, choosing to take an attitude of gratitude can be highly beneficial!

There are many motivational books and stories out there. It is seldom that I encourage anyone to read . This book touched me in so many ways . I highly recommend reading and start writing thank you notes. It adds happiness to everyone's days because we receive a thank you instead of a bill or sale in our mail box. Goodness is returned in every way. An amazing story .
