Editorial Reviews

GoodReads

A lot goes on in this book and it's an enjoyable, well paced novel. I've read a lot of Christian fiction through the years and this is certainly one of the better ones. I enjoy the way it shows the love of God, less preachy, more simply being revealed throughout the book. Pleasant, joyful read.

— Lauren Jones

Romantic Times

The second book in the Harmony series has everything Mehl's fans could ask for: romance, mystery, and family secrets. The characters are well rounded without being weighed down with boring details. The small-town values are a big part of the story. Mehl is a wonderful author who writes from the heart and it is apparent throughout the book.

— Patsy Glans

Maureen's Musings

This book has a bit of everything! Romance, danger, abandoned baby, humor, murder, blizzards, and faith!! I enjoyed this book, being set in a quiet Mennonite Community in Kansas. I haven't read the first book in this series, but even though there were reference to the first book, I was able to read along. Throughout the book there seems to be on going fear to turn their problems over to God.

Once you start reading this book, it is hard to put down. You are drawn to the quiet KS town of Harmony....which sounds delightful! Most of the people here look out for one another! When something happens, even without phones, everyone seems to know about it!

I loved the way everyone gravitated to food...whether at Mary's or Sweeties...this book will make you hungry! I am now looking forward to the next book in this series...answers to questions! I would recommend this read to all!

— Maureen Timerman

Laurel's Bookshelf

This book has everything readers of Christian mysteries could want, and more. You'll find generous doses of drama, danger, humor, faith and love, plus fictional characters who seem like familiar friends. The blizzards that plague Harmony provide an ideal ambience for the writer's cozy, pleasing story-telling style. Each book I read in every series becomes my favorite.

This is a fast paced story of faith, deceit, secrets, love and a communtiy. While this is a Christian it is not preachy but allow each to grasp their own faith.A wonderful sequel to "Simple Secrets".

Simple Deceit by Nancy Mehl - A Must Read!

This is the second book in The Harmony Series. Gracie Temple is back in this exciting thriller. Gracie doesn't even make it to Harmony when she is pulled over by a police officer. He stated that her tail light was out and that is why she was pulled over. As the story unfolds we find out that this isn't exactly true. It only gets worse for Gracie when she spots a women leaving a baby on the door step of the church. A nasty note about Gracie shows up, claiming she is the real baby's mother. The action really heats up as the story unfolds. Why is someone out to harm Gracie? In this story Gracie will begin to doubt her feelings for Sam. Sweetie will continue to be in charge of mothering Gracie and praying that Gracie and Sam will be together. After all, weren't they meant to be? There are a number of characters in this book that play an important part. Nancy Mehl does an excellent job of keeping you guessing on who the culprit is. This is a book you won't want to miss.

I can't wait to read Simple choices. I want to know if Gracie and Sam get married!

    Simple Deceit is simply great

Simple Deceit is the second book in Nancy Mehl's Harmony Series, and in this story Gracie Temple has decided to make Harmony, Kansas her permanent home, but staying hinges on the fact that she will be able to do freelance work and her first job is for a land developer who wants to build a retirement community outside Harmony. As she wraps up her job in Wichita and heads home to Harmony, things start to go awry as soon as she gets back into town. The local sheriff pulls her over, and then she sees a woman leave an abandoned baby on the church steps, but when rumors circulate that the baby actually belongs to Gracie, her longtime beau Sam Goodrich doesn't respond well to the rumors. To top things off the man who was going to sell his property to the developer winds up dead! Add to all this is a blizzard that hits the town, and one of Gracie's friends is caught out in it! How will things work out in Harmony? Will Gracie and Sam work out their problems, and what about the handsome land developer that seems to have his sites set on Gracie? Will Gracie be able to stay in Harmony even if the land deal falls thru?

While this is the second book in a series I feel like it could easily be read as a stand alone work, the author provides enough background that you feel perfectly at ease in the tiny town of Harmony. Reading this book was like visiting with old friends, I love the Sam's aunt Myrtle Goodrich aka as "Sweetie," even though she often appears gruff on the inside she really is a sweetie, I particularly enjoyed the little story with the cat Snickle. While this book wasn't as exciting as the first book in the Harmony Series it is still a worthwhile read. Anyone who enjoys a nice mystery woven together with a bit of romance set in a nice little town full of interesting characters really should check this series out.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

Must read and take a trip into Harmony!

Gracie dreamed of the day she would finally be free of the city and able to begin her new life in the small town of Harmony. When the day finally arrived, things didn't begin quite how she planned. A traffic stop, an abandoned baby, a blizzard, and a concussion? What happened to the simple Mennonite family she left behind?

Sam eagerly awaited Gracie's arrival. He was ready to pick up where they had left off. Yet in the midst of a blizzard, his past comes back to haunt him. Will he and Gracie survive his past? Will his orchards survive the present?

While Gracie and Sam struggle to determine if their relationship is built to last, the town of Harmony struggles to decide if they are ready for a new retirement village to be build on the outskirts of their little town. Will having more English people in their community ruin the simplicity of what they have? Will Gabe discover the kindling romance between Sarah and John?

Once again Nancy Mehl has outdone herself. The simple town of Harmony draws you in and invites you to stay. I for one would love to visit.
