Meet the Author

Dr. Scott Isaacs attended medical school Emory School of Medicine and continued on at Emory for his residency and fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. Dr. Isaacs is now Clinical Instructor of Medicine at Emory University as well as Medical Director at Intelligent Health Center. He has done research on obesity, stress and diabetes and has published several articles, including a recent paper in the Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism. He gives many lectures on the subject of "Hormones and Obesity," speaking to groups in the community as well as at major events and conferences throughout the United States. He also trains other doctors in the field. Dr. Isaacs has been quoted in many national publications including Fitness Magazine, Women's World, First Health, The Chicago Tribune, Atlanta Magazine and others, and has given expert commentary on several television news programs. He is the author of the best selling books, Overcoming Metabolic Syndrome (Addicus Books, 2006),Hormonal Balance: Understanding Hormones, Weight and Your Metabolism and A Simple Guide to Thyroid Disorders (Addicus Books, 2004). Dr. Isaacs is a Diplomat of the American Board of Bariatric Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Endocrinology. Paul Ruggieri, M.D., is a board-certified general surgeon in private practice in southeastern Massachusetts. Dr. Ruggieri received his medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. Dr. Ruggieri completed his surgical internship and residency at Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri. After his medical training, Dr. Ruggieri joined the Army and was stationed at the U.S. Army hospital in Fort Polk, Louisiana. During his time in the military, he rose to the rank of major, received the Army Commendation and Meritorious Service Medals, and became the chief of the department of surgery. In 1995, Dr. Ruggieri entered a private surgical practice near Nashville, Tennessee. In 1998, he returned to his native New England to join a surgical group in southeastern Massachusetts. Dr. Ruggieri is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. He is also the co-author of A Simple Guide to Thyroid Disorders (Addicus Books, 2010) and is the author of The Surgery Handbook: A Guide to Understanding Your Operation (Addicus Books, 1999).
