Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Knight's earlier pattern book, Comforts of Home (Martingale, 2000), emphasized knitting soft, comfortable fashion accessories for the home. In a similar tone, this book emphasizes classic designs knitted for babies in pastels and naturals using soft fibers such as bulky cottons, silk, and cashmere. Beginning knitters can complete most of the designs featured, and, although specific yarns are recommended, the author includes information on substituting yarns. Visually, this is a beautiful book, with full-page color photos of each design and detailed close-ups. Among the many designs featured are an enchanting cashmere teddy bear, a lace-edged baby blanket, and classic baby booties. Warmly recommended for public libraries of all sizes. How about in the round

This book is wonderful. The photography is beautiful. and I love the simple patterns. I prefer to knit in the round only because I am too lazy to sew the seams, and I find that I can easily convert the patterns to use double point needles and minimize that annoying sewing up.

I did find that the size chart on page 115 for the ribbon tied vest is a bit off. If you have 7 stitches per inch, as the gauge says, and the whole garment has 124 stitches for the medium size, then it would be 17.7, or almost 18 inches for the medium size, and not 16.5 as the chart says. The small size would be 16 inches, and the large would be 19.4 inches. I feel that this is minor, and most people would calculate it out for themselves anyway rather than going by the chart, however the vest will be larger than you expect if you do use the chart and if you knit to the gauge as it is given. So then, you can either use the number of stitches given in the pattern and have larger sizes, or calculate the number of stitches for the actual size you want.

The great basic patterns are excellent as they are given, and readily lend themselves to all kinds of embellishments too, so they are great for knitters of all levels, from beginner to more experienced. It would be easy, for example, to put a simple lacy pattern into any of these garments for a different look, or to use various picot or other edgings, keeping the lovely simplicity and varying the small details to personalize your work. I feel that this book is a 'must have' for all knitters.

Great patterns & can double as a coffee-table book!

The projects in this book are really simple and beautiful. The photography and presentation make this a very satisfying book to leaf through when you need a break from actually knitting (!) and to inspire daydreams of projects to come....Whenever I bring this book to browse through instead of a magazine, co-workers who thought knitting was for crotchety old ladies ask me to teach them how to knit!

    THE stylish baby knit book

This book is perfect for beginners, but...it is also a great book for intermediate or advanced knitters. The patterns in this book look good no matter who knits them. Knitters will refer to this book's universal patterns for years.
