It's all about that second chance...

Simple Riches is Book Three of That Second Chance Series. (These are standalone books tied together by a common theme—belief in the beauty of that second chance.) This 88,000 word novel digs deep into the relationship between a couple, their families, and the town that stands between them.

Alexandra Chamberlain is a cosmopolitan woman whose uncle taught her to discard everything but the bottom line on a balance sheet. She’ll do anything to earn his approval and prides herself on excelling at her job, which is selecting small towns to buy up, flatten, and replace with luxury resorts. When Alex decides to investigate Restalline, Pennsylvania as a potential site for the next resort, she enters the town under the guise of a researcher gathering information for a documentary. It should be easy, just like all the others. But this town is different, from Alex’s zany landlord to Nick Androvich, the town doctor with a battered heart who questions Alex’s motives yet can’t deny his attraction to her. As Alex and Nick explore their growing relationship, they must face the truth about each other and themselves as they search for their own Simple Riches.

Meet the Author

A woman once told me my stories will pull you apart and put you back together but never in quite the same way. I should have known I’d become a writer when at age thirteen I began changing the ending to all the books I read. It took several years and a number of jobs, including registered nurse, (very short lived), receptionist in a swanky hair salon, (great cuts, no money), accounts payable clerk, (ugh- not for a right brainer!), and practice manager in an OB/GYN office, (good job, great boss), for me to rediscover writing.

It all began at the hands of a 286 computer, a failing marriage, and three daughters under the age of five. Writing proved wonderful, (and inexpensive) therapy as I let my fingers and bruised heart begin a tender love story where the hero and heroine surpass incredible obstacles in search of true happiness and eternal love. But the story was only 100 pages complete when I packed it away and moved with my children to a rental bungalow where I took on the challenge of single motherhood and re-entering the work force. The 5 ¼” floppy disk containing the love story remained sandwiched between Lotus and PacMan until years later, when I discovered it while unpacking boxes for the home I shared with my new husband, three children, and two stepchildren. I powered up the old 286 computer, popped in the disk, and spent the rest of the afternoon re-reading the story and mapping out my future as a writer. Since then I’ve written and published several books

When I’m not writing or following the lives of five “almost” adult to young adult children, I’m digging in the dirt with my flowers and herbs, cooking, reading, walking our rescue lab mix, Cooper, or on the perfect day, riding off into the sunset with my very own “hero” husband on his Electra Glide Classic aka Harley.

    engaging simplistic contemporary romance

Helen and Walter Chamberlain raised their niece Alexandra after the deaths of the girl¿s parents. Unlike her parents, her guardians taught Alex that one must always be professional and work harder than anyone else does if they are to succeed. Alex adheres to that guidance as she kills herself in order to make her uncle proud of her accomplishments while working for his company, developers of luxury resorts.
Alex is investigating Restalline, Pennsylvania as the possible next sight of a WEC Management development property. She must buy land, but a key player Dr. Nick Androvich, who recently returned home a widow with an eight-year-old son, rejects her development project. As Alex and Nick argue over progress they fall in love leading to the dilemma of deciding between a chance for a lifetime of happiness and her life¿s goal to please her uncle.
SIMPLE RICHES is a simplistic contemporary romance that stays on the critical path of the interesting story line, which makes for a deep look at a character struggling with opposite pulls. Alex is the novel as she internally battles between her duty to her family, business, and a lifetime of lessons vs. her love for Nick, his child, and the townsfolk. The secondary cast is a strong group that includes Nick who though obviously important and in most scenes is an impetus to the emotional turmoil of the heroine. This is a strong tale by a powerful author who keeps the plot uncomplicated yet lucid and engaging.
Harriet Klausner
