Simple Taoism: A Guide to Living in Balance

The companion books 'Simple Zen' and 'Simple Taoism' by husband and wife team C. Alexander Simpkins Ph.D. and Annellen Simpkins Ph.D. give a clear explanation of both Zen and Taoism and how to apply their best aspects to your daily life. In addition to discussions of the philosophical aspects, the Simpkins also give practical instructions on Taoist exercises such as meditation, breathing, chi kung, and tai chi chuan. In like manner they also provide Zen hands-on information on poetry, brush painting, and martial arts. With over 60 years of combined experience in studies of the mind, the Simpkins are uniquely qualified writers who present a clear, concise explanation of the somewhat esoteric topics without losing any of the beauty or art which makes Zen and Taoism so appealing to millions of followers around the world. Available from Tuttle Publishing, and priced at a reasonable $12.95 each, these books are an excellent way to improve both your understanding and your spirituality.

Simple Taoism: A Guide to Living in Balance

Relax. Here is an instructional guide for life balane that truly invites the reader to intone a life of wellness. 'Simple Taoism, A Guide to Living in Balance' 'simplifies' five thousand years of yin and yang into a thumb and fingertip sized pocket book of philosophical fun. Research and writing team Alexander and Annellen Simpkins are psychologists sensitive to your mind and emotions. In their approach to creating this book they followed the Tao principle 'less equals more' thus offering relevant Tao messages for people today. 'In modern times, people are taught that if they try hard, they will succeed,' they write. 'This intense striving often leads to stress and discomfort. Taoists believe you can accomplish more without efort. You become One with Tao not to foget yourself but to attune yourself to the rhythms of life so you can develop your talents fully.' This little reader is divided into three parts: history, thoery, and application. The advantage it brings is the overview--each significant ancestor, each era, each principle, and each life lesson is explained just enough for adequate understanding. If you decide you simply can't go on living without knowing absolutely everythng about Taoism, you are in luck here, because one can cover all 170 pages in just a few hours. Whether you want to find the Path, or you just want to be proactive in your education, 'Simple Taoism' is a neat little read. So grab your chi and relax
