Dinner Under the Stars
Growing up, I had a "secret" garden deep in the woods, where I grew shade-loving ferns and flowering chive herbs in a pebble-lined garden surrounded by dogwood trees and winding grapevine.
I still love the unexpected and cozy feeling of outdoor dining. A regular cloth tarp hung high up in the trees can instantly become a canopy, transforming the trees into wild pillars. Comfortable pillows and blankets thrown on chairs feel even more luxurious, perhaps because they are "out of character" for being temporarily exiled outside of the home. Cocktails, summer fare, and refreshing desserts seem to taste better outdoors.
So take the party outside. Even the hottest months can be cooler outside, sojust wait for the sun to set and invite friends over to dine alfresco. Toast the lazy summer nights with a glass of Prosecco, slice a rustic organic peach tart into wedges, and watch the fireflies flicker near the glowing solar lanterns. Even if you don't live near the woods, invite friends to picnic in a park. Bring an ultra-thick blanket and turn any grassy patch of land into your private dining space; let the fireflies light upthe evening sky.
These ideas can turn your ho-hum BBQ into a special and elegant outdoor affair. Whether you need extra seating or a creative, last-minute dessert idea, this chapter will be a useful reference for the next time you dine under the stars.
