Overview

It’s said if you want to succeed, watch successful people and do what they do. Simply Irresistible is a humorous manual of case studies that show how the greatest sirens of history did what they did and got what they wanted, nearly all the time. Our role models-many of whom are still weaving their charms today- include Eva Peron, Greta Garbo, Coco Chanel, Nigella Lawson, Angelina Jolie, Edith Piaf, Lucretia Borgia, Anne Boleyn, Mata Hari, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Simply Irresistible gives practical, sexy, and sometimes downright outrageous advice on modern seduction. It exalts the siren archetypes of the Companion, Competitor, Goddess, Mother, and Sex Kitten. The cheeky histories of the iconic real-life women are paired with a fun array of quizzes, quotes, photos, tongue-in-cheek captions, and personal stories of triumph and tragedy. (Mata Hari and Anne Boleyn were, after all, both executed.) The wisdom of these famous sirens is fleshed out with the contributions of everyday, lesser known charismatic women. The conclusion? All women have an inner siren-the ability to bring men to their knees-just waiting to come out. Now they’ll know how.

Editorial Reviews

USA Today
The allure of various world-class femme fatales - Cleopatra, Jackie O, Camilla Parker Bowles, Angelina Jolie - is dissected in this delectable book.
New York Times Sunday Styles
Ellen T. White's ravishing recap of the world's heartbreakers, provides portraits of women who knew how to work it (and a few who are still at it). Dashing, fun and informative, the book is an spirit-lifting tonic for any woman with a case of the gravity blahs.
Library Journal

Just for fun comes the collected wisdom of seductresses throughout history, compiled by the managing editor of marketing for the New York Public Library. White helps women identify their own sirenlike qualities and assists them in becoming their most enticing selves. She also cites examples of famous sirens-e.g., Nicole Kidman, Coco Chanel, Evita Perón, and Catherine the Great-and distinguishes among five different types: the companion, the competitor, the goddess, the mother, and the sex kitten. Pictures, quizzes, and quotations make this an irresistible read. Highly recommended for all libraries in preparation for Valentine's Day 2008.

    Nothing New

This book basically tells you how to get and control a guy using sex. A lot of the advice seemed skanky, but then again, sex is the main theme. Some of the stories were interesting but the tips aren't anything new. You can find the exact same tips in pretty much any issue of Cosmopolitan.

    I Also Recommend:

    Originial and instructive book

I enjoyed reading the book. It sends a message that every woman can be beautiful and alluring to men. The book describes different famous women from history and the gives the reader interesting examples of how women can become more captivating and attractive to men. I think that this book is suitable for a present for my niece because it will teach young women to value their individuality.

    Page 12

She lost me on page 12 when she described a harpy, but called it a siren.
