Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
America's most beloved dysfunctional family is back in this book that compiles all the best of The Simpsons. You'll find Homer's best lines, episode and guest star information, a nod to the musical numbers that have been on the show, and a tribute to departed Springfield resident Troy McClure (voiced by the late Phil Hartman).

Two Mediocre Seasons, One Mediocre Book

The first book in this series, 'The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family' epitomized the concept of a TV show companion book. Lavishly illustrated and laid out, with a perfect balance of images and info, it covered the first eight seasons of this wonderful show in vivid detail. All that went straight out the window with 'The Simpsons Forever'. This book seems like it was put together by someone who only had a vague idea what the first book looked like. The first glaring problem is that it's too short - it's under 100 pages and profiles Seasons 9 and 10, the years when 'The Simpsons' began to sink in quality under the iron thumb of Mike Scully as Executive Producer, who favored surrealist humor over satire. The next problem was that to make up for how short this book is, the editors made a whole lot more double pages than they should have (according to the first book, each season should have about four doubles). But the worst problem is the layout. Many pages look like they were thrown together in about five minutes - they have too few framegrabs, too little information, monstrous graphics to make up for the lack of information, and basically just a poorly executed design. While it is still acceptable (but only just so), all the obvious tricks they pulled to stretch the book out as long as they could still leap out at me, and I yearn for the days when the first book was the standard for the series.

    But this now!

Buy this book now! If you don't already have the first one (The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to our Favorite Family) then buy that book too. They had better keep making new books every two (or better yet, three (less money to shell out)) seasons. You may remember me as the fella who said that the first book was the best ever written by a human (not that alien's have better books, of course not), well I still stand by that statement.

This book covered everything I wanted to know about all of those gags in the most recent episodes. The Homer material was awesome. This book is a must for all hardcore simpsons fans.
