Children's Literature
The brightly decorated carrying case houses three board books and a CD. The main characters all sit in the train so even if kids cannot read, they can figure out what the stories are—Yankee Doodle, Mary Had a Little Lamb and Bill Grogan's Goat. The CD song versions and the books have extended the stories considerably. Yankee Doodle and the girl he meets open up a restaurant and the lunch special is macaroni and cheese. Mary and her little lamb go to school and the other kids decide that the lamb should join them in the classroom. He learns to write his name, but cannot read. No matter—the teacher says that he is welcome anytime. In Bill Grogan's Goat, the goat gets into trouble eating three red shirts off the clothes line. When Bill ties him to the railroad track, the adventures begin and then the story comes full circle with the goat once again eating the same three red shirts off the clothesline. All the books are filled with humorous illustrations and lots of details. The CD provides musical versions of the text. Two of the stories are sung solo and the other by a group of kids, followed by music only for the songs. 2005, Little Brown, Ages 3 mo. to 5.
