Marisol heads down to the beach to play. She is filled with joy because her mama has given her a pair of gold earrings for her seventh birthday. To keep her earrings safe, Marisol tucks them into a rock crevice. When evening comes she realizes that she forgot them, and she heads back to the beach. An ugly old troll is perched on the rock. He tricks her and she is trapped in his sack. From then on, whenever he demands, she must sing her favorite song. The troll plans to charge people admission to hear his magic sack sing. The story has a happy ending and to tell more would just spoil the fun. This favorite tale from Puerto Rico has been adapted and retold for a young audience. The text is interspersed with Spanish words and the song Marisol sings is also printed in Spanish. A "Bank Street Ready-To-Read" Level 3 book. 1999 (orig.
