Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Joyce Rice
Just in time for summer vacation, author Mack gives the upper elementary-lower middle reader a "backpack" book for the trip. This compact volume provides tear out sheets for campers to share with their bunkmates. Each of the ten sections includes four copies of each quiz, with the exception of is the section that is for BFFs only and comes with only two copies. The other nine sections can be grouped into four areas: what to do at camp, getting ready for camp, pet peeves about camp, and favorite things to do at camp. Although lightweight, this volume allows campers to know what kinds of camps are available to them and which ones might be interested them. It provides an understanding of the kind of activities in which they might participate and the not-so-good parts about camp, like missing your family and not seeing your friends. Overall this title would make a good gift for the kids who are considering camp but have not yet decided or those who want to change up their routine by going to a different kind of camp, like Arts camp or Space camp. This guide is not a first choice for academic collections because of its format—tear out pages but it is a worthy choice for personal use and will probably be found in many book fair collections. Meet the Author

Lizzie Mack would rather have strawberry ice cream than chocolate or vanilla. She would also rather be sitting at the beach reading a book, than sitting in front of the computer working. Her three cats let Lizzie, her husband, and her daughter share their apartment in NJ.
