Overview

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new forbidden STANDALONE romance.

What happens when the one you want is the only one you can't have?

My name is Sevin.

Homeschooled and sheltered by my ultra-religious family, I was always taught that lust was a sin.

Elle was the girl who'd been carefully chosen for me.

After a long-distance courtship, I'd be moving into her family's guesthouse so that we could get to know each other in the months before the wedding.

Boundaries were set: no inappropriate touching, no kissing, no sex before marriage.

I'd accepted those rules and my fate.

Until I met the one I wanted to sin with.

That was when restraint became a problem...especially since THE ONE wasn't Elle.

It was her sister, Evangeline.

You know what they say about best laid plans.

My name is Sevin, and I have sinned.

Told in alternating points of view, Sins of Sevin is a full-length standalone novel. Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. Only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

Loved the thorough character development. Found myself holding my breath a few pages. I loved Addie and her advice. Highly recommended!

FIRST, it must be said, please please please (yes, I'm begging) continue this story! I am dying to know how it all plays out, what a world wind. Next, though I loved the story and how each charecters' trials and tribulations with life weaved so effortlessly throughout, I have to admit Evangeline's inability to continually not see the "forest for the trees" began to make continuing with the story challenging at times; however , I perservered and am left in awe. Penelope Ward has put together sheer magic and a MUST read.

I couldn't put it down! I've read all of Penelope Ward's books and they have all been amazing, but for some reason I didn't think I'd like this one as much...but boy was I was wrong! I hope there's going to be a second book about Rose.

This was amazing but it cannot end this way. Please let there be more.

Such a good story. Was a little slow starting off but maybe it's just because it seems so different then anything else that I've read of Penelope Ward books. It takes you on an emotional roller coaster. I enjoyed everything about this book. Wish it would have ending a little differently

I am new to this author but have fallen in love with her writing style. This book had me from start to finish. The author made me feel for every character in the book. The story took turns I didn't expect from this type of genre. Am looking forward to reading more from Penelope Ward.

I gave this 4 stars because of the quality writing, story line and the author. The story was unique. It revolves around a couple families of God fearing Christians with fairly strict upbringings including home schooling for protection from outside influences. The marriages aren't exactly arranged, but it's close with courtship guidelines once the fathers select suitable suitors. Sevin and Evangeline have an instant love connection/chemistry when the meet unexpectedly. Unfortunately, he's on his way to live with a new family and court one of their daughters for marriage. As it turns out, it's to her sister Elle. This book is full of angst, emotion, shock, trauma, love, tragedy and plenty of laugh out loud moments. Every time I thought that I knew which way the story line would go, there would be an event to completely alter the direction the characters were moving towards. My heart broke many times during this read, and the ending (while realistic) wasn't fulfilling for me. This wasn't one of my favorite reads, but I couldn't lessen the star rating because of it. I'm glad that I took the time for it, and I would recommend it. I listened to the audio version and the people reading pulled you right in and gave credible voices to the characters.

Loved it!!! This book made me cry,, laugh, hurt for all of the characters. It was a tragically beautiful love story with so many different layers to absorb. I really hope this story is continued.

I loved this story so, so, so much. Its both heartbreaking and wrenching at the same time. Its full of love and passion, but at the same time teaches us some hard lessons between your beliefs (religious and non religious) and following what your heart truly wants. This book follows the story of Sevin and Evangeline and how they come to fall in love with each other even though its considered forbidden by their own families. This book was a very deep emotional roller coaster for me in the best way possible, and if your looking for a romance book that has a lot of love, amazing characters, and makes you think all in one, then Sins of Sevin is definitely for you. Ive never had a book make me get tears in my eyes until I read Sevin and Evangeline story. Penelope is incredibly talented and beautiful writer with everything she writes and this story takes the cake. Don't miss out on this beautiful story. Its a must for everyone!

A complete story. A standalone romance. A forbidden love story. I knew all this going in and I was still gut-wrenched, heart-broken, frustrated, happy, slack-jawed, and speechless in turns. Sevin is fighting the bonds of a devoutly religious family (read as bible bashing step-mother) and makes his escape by the way of an arranged marriage (of sorts). The bride-to-be, after all the proper courting and chaperoned time together is the daughter of his fathers friend and this arrangement is his ticket out of his own personal hell. Elle is a pretty, quiet woman with no aspirations beyond being a good wife and mother. That is he goal and more power to her. It's not about judging the dream but achieving the dream. When Sevin meets Evangeline, Elle's sister, for the first time the connection he has never felt with Elle or anyone is overpowering. It leaves him questioning, and her heartbroken when she realizes this is the intended husband of her sister. This story is complicated and deep, and I couldn't put it down. My own brief synopsis above barely covers the first tenth of the book. The characters are dimensional and flawed and Penelope has really hit it out of the park with this story. It is so different from the usual romance tales - it was refreshing. And don't get me wrong - I blog about books because I LOVE the usual romance tales too. But the occasional outlier is a gem, and Sins of Sevin is one of those gems.

This book was Penelope Ward as you've NEVER read her before! Authors and reviewers have used the term "forbidden romance" before, but this book truly lives up to that phrase! This book has ALL THE FEELS: angst, passion, humor, heartbreak, and loss. It's EVERYTHING an amazing book should be, and I could not pick up another book for days after reading this one, which NEVER happens! I was just THAT caught up in this story and the cast of characters. The characters and plot were well-developed and rich. The synopsis doesn't even begin to hint at what's inside this book, but uncovering the revelations is what had me up in the wee hours of the morning, unable to put this book down. It was unlike anything I've ever read before, and this story will haunt you for days after. It's a MUST READ! This book is a stand-alone novel, although I think many would agree that there's definitely room for more with these characters.

3.5 Stars Reviewed by Francesca and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog Wow, SINS OF SEVIN packs a high angsty punch! I feel worn out after reading it. This was so different than most things I’ve read in part due to the world and lifestyle this is set in. Both Sevin and Evangeline’s families are very religious. They follow the rules of the church and their specific community to a fault. When Sevin’s father passes away and he’s left in the care of his not so wonderful step-mother, he is given the choice to move away and marry the daughter of one of his father’s friends (whom he hasn’t met before). This is how their courtships work. A man is selected to be part of a family, who was raised with the same values and can be a good member of their society. And that’s why they’ve come to Sevin. But before Sevin moves in with his new fiance Elle and her family, he meets a girl that captivates him in every way. A girl that quickly turns into his own personal addiction. And that girl just happens to be Elle’s sister, Evangeline. I don’t want to give more than that away because it was a very entertaining read not knowing what would happen and what twists they would experience next. Sevin and Evangeline have an immediate connection and I was sold on that from the get go. I was rooting for them to have an HEA because as much as Sevin was engaged to another woman, it was always a business transaction not one of love. They hadn’t even seen each other more than a few minutes! But their relationship, as you can expect, is not easy. It’s riddled with obstacles they have to overcome. And a lot of them are very difficult. I liked that the author brought that real life element to their story instead of making it all roses. I was very excited to dive into this one because it’s my first Ward solo book. I’ve only read her release with Vi Keeland and I couldn’t wait to see her writing style independent from Keeland. I saw a lot of the things that I liked about that book but I also felt the pace of this book was too slow for this particular story in my opinion. There’s almost a before and after feel to the story where the first half of the book tells us one situation leading up to one pivotal moment in the characters lives and relationship, and then the second part which is the aftermath of that and how they can reconnect through their loss. I just had such a hard time understanding their decisions, or lets be more specific Evangeline’s decisions. As much as Sevin was perfect and willing to fight for their young love, Evangeline was too deep rooted in her believes and responsibilities and couldn’t find solutions that made sense to me. I know these kids were all very sheltered growing up and there might’ve been things they didn’t understand about life, but at some point self preservation has to kick in. I just wish we would’ve seen a stronger Evangeline. SINS OF SEVIN doesn’t lack in situations that can go wrong for these two as they go through so many ups and downs, and when they hit downs they are rock bottom. It was nice to see how even through heartache they could help each other heal. Because their love was even bigger than their hurt and they could still care for the other person. All that being said, I loved the ending! We fast forward a few years and realize where their lives are now, but the best part is it gives some closure to the big issue that almost tore them apart. Very happy the author didn’t leave that unanswered

Be prepared for an intensely emotional read! I loved the emotions that came through in this story, and “intense” doesn’t even BEGIN to describe how much I felt throughout this whole book! Penelope is definitely very talented at getting a reader to feel exactly how she wants them to feel! Sevin was absolutely wonderful to read! Tortured, sexy and sensitive all at the same time, he is currently my new book-boyfriend. Evangeline was fighting her own demons, and the combination of her and Sevin, especially in the first half of the story, was some of my favorite writing. While I wasn’t in love with the major aspect introduced in the latter part of the story and how it all played out (no spoilers!!!), the writing was still phenomenal and kept me glued to the pages. This was my first “exclusively-written-by-Penelope” book, and if all of her books are this well-written, she just might be one of my new favorite authors! ***I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***

The question heading into my review states: "What Did You Think?". It's not what I thought about SINS OF SEVIN by Penelope Ward, it's what I felt, and what I felt was hopeful, depressed, encouraged, annoyed, in love and devastated and Happy, Very happy!! Sevin's story is one with very high highs and extremely low lows. How can one man have already given his heart to one sister, yet live with the obligation of being betrothed to the other? This is the maze of emotions that Sevin must navigate. Sevin starts out with his mind set on one outcome for his life, yet is magnetically pulled by true love to another. The obstacles that stood in Sevin's way on his journey toward his true love, Evangeline, were complicated and heartbreaking. Sevin chose to live a life that was somewhat prescribed for him with Evangeline's sister, Elle. As Sevin and Evangeline strived toward their shared goal of being together, life happened for Sevin and Elle, as they tried and establish a nice stable life. Sometimes life wasn't pretty. Thankfully Sevin ws filled with enough courage, loyalty and faith to stay the course and be as true to himself and Evangeline as possible. The incredibly interesting supporting characters, Evangeline's good friend Adelaide, Sevin's brother Lucas, Sevin's beloved parents and curious step-family, and Evangeline and Elle's very religious and strict family, as well as Dodge City and all who lived there, add compelling depth and texture to this deep story. There is truth in all love. There is love in humor, and I found myself smiling from ear to ear as I read this story. There were some twists I absolutely missed, and I most definitely reached for the tissue box more than once. So yes, Sins of Sevin is about a guy named Sevin who took some chances on love with his soul mate and hoped for the best. I LOVED IT!! Here's one last nugget I know for sure. Sevin's Sins may have the purest intent of any sins I have ever known. And that's the truth! Congratulations, Penelope Ward!!

This was a very well written story, but at times did seem to move too slowly...only to rush at the end, again. The characters were beautifully portrayed but definitely could have been expanded on. I would have loved to "hear" Elle's thoughts throughout the story as well
