Overview

With more than 1 million copies sold, Sisters changed the face of photo-essay books and spoke volumes to every person blessed with the companionship of a female sibling. This updated and revised edition of the highly acclaimed New York Times bestseller is a moving portrayal of the profound relationship between sisters, featuring a new format plus new photography and updated stories that follow up on 13 of the most poignant tales about the original 36 sets of featured siblings. The women in Sisters include both the famous—Christy Turlington, Dixie Carter, Coretta Scott King, Wendy Wasserstein—and the lesser known but still unforgettable. "Wohlmuth's striking photography will seduce you immediately," wrote Entertainment Weekly. "As for Saline, she has used the subject matter as a brilliant device."

Editorial Reviews

"Sisters is probably the most competitive relationship within the family, but once sisters are grown, it becomes the strongest relationship," observed anthropologist Margaret Mead. Soon after Saline and Wohlmoth's Sisters was first published in September 1994, it became a word-of-mouth bestseller. So resilient was its popularity that it stayed on the New York Times list for more than a year. Now writer Saline and photographer Wohlmoth have collaborated on a tenth anniversary edition of this reader-made classic.
