This book is a good overview of some of the developments in the field that go back to 60s and 70s, when the field was just beginning. Watts provides a pretty good Further Readings section where he tells the reader the difficulty of the scholarly articles and books he cites. The major merit of this book is that it introduces the topic of networks as it pertains to social networks, business organizations, spread of disease, and communications and technology networks.
